Minutes of the Feb. 13 Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 meeting.

The meeting was called to order by Commander Bill Sullivan.

The color guard advanced the colors, Chaplain Boyd Summers gave the invocation, members recited the pledge of allegiance to the flag, and Pre-amble of the American Legion Constitution in unison. Forty-two members were present.

Sullivan introduced Pamela K Pratt, an employee of Southeast Missouri State University, who presented the program. Pratt works with the A.P.P.L.E. project, which is a service to senior citizens, needing help with paperwork connected with Medicare, Medigap, tax returns, etc.

A credit on property tax for seniors under a certain income level, is available from the state. Her office has information on prescriptions available. Call 651-5467 for appointment.

She mentioned her office works with the No Call Program, which deals with annoying telephone calls from telemarketers.

The minutes from the January meeting were amended to read, "Cathy James purchased 50 glasses from the Club Room, and donated them for use to the Club Room."

Committee reports were as follows: Mike Proctor gave the financial report, which was accepted. Vice Commander Lloyd Law reported 588 members paid for 20O1. Trustee Harland Siebert stated the floor will be refinished, and maintenance is needed on the heating and air-conditioning systems. Bill Poe mentioned more hospital beds have been made-available, and gave the Club Room report, which was accepted. Carlton Meyer reported two flags were sold during the past month. Leon Laurentius gave the house report, Leonard Adams gave the bingo report. A dinner for bingo workers was to be at Delmonico's Feb. 21.

Approval was given to send two boys to Boys State, at Warrensburg June l6-23. Interviews will be Thursday at Jackson High School.

Ken Koehler reported coaches for Legion baseball have volunteered. He expressed his appreciation for the support, and awarded several plaques to people and organizations who contributed for year 2000. He was to barbecue ribs Feb. 24 at the legion building. Proceeds were to go to Legion baseball. Koehler has really put forth a lot of effort in the baseball program, and deserves our support.

Poe announced the annual birthday dinner will be March 15, at the legion hall. Permission was given to donate $150 for the hospitality hour 5:30-6:30 p.m., with the meal to be served at 7.

Richard Aguilar won an attendance prize, a T-shirt from the Stars and Stripes. service newspaper.

The name of David Beussink was drawn for the attendance prize of $76, not present. The names of Charles Fluegge, Ken Parrett, Wayne Sarno and Byron Fluegge were drawn for half. Byron Fluegge was present.

Chaplain Boyd Summers gave the memorial service, Commander Sullivan gave closing remarks, the colors were retired, and meeting adjourned at 9 p.m.

The group proceeded to the dining hall, where Vince Schwartz had prepared vegetable stew. Good job, Vince.
