Heather Short left her banking career to take a job that allowed her to give back to the community she cares about so much. Short works as communications and marketing director for the United Way of Southeast Missouri. She's also the chairwoman of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce's ambassadors committee and recently received the organization's Go Getter Award. __How is your career field growing and changing?__
My career is growing and changing daily with trying to keep up with the growing social media and marketing plans. We at United Way have so many successful programs and stories that we continue to share while trying to also communicate how great the need in our community is. Also, fundraising is a constant challenge as many are struggling with their personal finances but we still rely on our community's generous donations so we can keep fundraising goals and funded programs on track.
__What inspires you?__
My faith in God inspires all aspects of my life.
__What's the secret to your success?__
The secret to my success is that I've grown to be open to change -- "If you change nothing, nothing will change." God blesses us with many life changes to keep us on track to our destiny. Also, I believe being enthusiastic and having passionate determination in all you do will help you succeed.
__What community issue or cause is most important to you and why?__
The issues that is most important to me is to create more awareness of "OUR" community's local needs. I never knew so many right here in our community were in such great need until I started my current career.
