Cape Girardeau and Scott City residents will get to test the latest consumer electronics, and students will get a handle on Internet safety as part of SBC's technology road show that is visiting 85 communities nationwide in coming weeks.
The SBC Yahoo! DSL Hometown Tour -- with events today and Tuesday -- features a series of local events and demonstrations that showcase the benefits of high-speed Internet service and how it can enhance the ability to conduct business, do schoolwork, access news and information, and more fully enjoy the Internet.
Today, beginning at 8:30 a.m., an Internet safety game will take place at Clippard Elementary School in Cape Girardeau, followed by a technology demonstration before the Downtown Rotary Club at its noon meeting at the Show Me Center. At 2:30 p.m. today, an Internet safety game will take place for more than 40 students at St. Josephn School in Scott City.
On Tuesday, the Internet safety game will be held at Scott City Elementary for 300 students at 8:30 a.m. That same game will take place at 1:45 p.m. at Alma Schrader Elementary in Cape Girardeau. Another technology demonstration will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schock Community Arts Center at 116 E. Hickory St. in Scott City.
The technology demonstrations feature the latest broadband-enabled gadgets such as digital music players, laptop computers, wireless printers and surveillance cameras, providing residents with the opportunity to test-drive these electronics and learn about new technologies.
Age-appropriate Internet safety programs engage local students in interactive, problem-solving challenges that teach the fundamental skills children need to stay safe online.
In 2004, the SBC Yahoo! DSL Hometown Tour visited Rogersville, Nixa, Marshall, Marceline and St. Joseph in Missouri.
