Southeast Missouri State University had a big night Friday at the American Advertising Awards with seven gold awards, including Best of Show.
Rustmedia, owned by Rust Communications, which also owns the Southeast Missourian, won five gold awards, including two Best of Show honors, and the founder of Element 74 in Cape Girardeau received a Silver Medal Award recognition for outstanding achievement.
Each year, Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals recognizes the region’s best advertising with the American Advertising Awards, known as the ADDYs.
During the ceremony at Isle Casino Cape Girardeau, awards were given to entries chosen from 129 print, digital and multimedia entries created, published or aired in the Cape Girardeau, Paducah, Kentucky, and Harrisburg, Illinois, markets between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016, according to a news release from Tri-State AMP.
Awards were given to 51 professional entries and 10 student entries, with gold, silver and bronze distinctions. It included three professional Best of Show gold awards and one student Best of Show award.
Rustmedia’s two Best of Show awards came in the print division for “Downtown Cape Branding” and in the cross-platform division for “Life Without.”
Southeast Missouri State University’s “Talking Booth” video received the Best of Show award in the digital division.
The student Best of Show was awarded for “Parengo Coffee Packaging,” a group project as part of Southeast’s Marketing Management and Advanced Graphic Design course integration.
Chris Edmonds, founder and president of Element 74, was The American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award recipient.
The award, established in 1959, recognizes men and women who have made
outstanding contributions to advertising and have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern, according to the release.
Edmonds, who founded Element 74 in 2000, not only works to help businesses harness the power of the internet, but he also serves on the board of directors of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, Chateau Girardeau and Beacon Health. He also does international ministry work in Swaziland, Africa, and Haiti, according to the news release.
Element 74 was awarded three silver and five bronze distinctions.
Gold ADDY awards were presented to Southeast Missouri State University, rustmedia, River Radio and KRMKTG.
Silver ADDYs were awarded to Southeast Missouri State University, The Wright Group, The Roberts Group, CDC-BME STIHL, River Radio, KRMKTG, Creative Edge, Element 74 and Sightnsound Media Services.
Bronze ADDY awards were presented to The Wright Group, The Roberts Group, CDC-BME STIHL, KRMKTG, Southeast Missouri State University, Creative Edge and Element 74.
