Haircuts and manicures are coming to the old site of the Jackson Senior Center.

Cutting Edge Salon and Spa is moving into the building in late February or early March, said owner Amie Glass. Glass and her husband, Neil, purchased the building at 402 E. Washington St. on Jan. 16.

The salon will provide booths for 10 hairstylists and a massage therapist will be on staff, Glass said.

"We're remodeling the building right now," she said. "We bought it for the size."

The building, which housed a grocery store before the senior center, is 1,000 square feet bigger than the current location of Cutting Edge, 820 W. Main St. in Jackson.

Glass said she hopes to hire someone to perform spray-on tans and apply permanent makeup, which are tattoos.

Jackson Senior Center moved into a new building at 2690 Travelers Way in August. Board of directors president Richard Aguilar said he is grateful the old building has been sold.

"I'm real happy, of course," Aguilar said. "We needed to get money out of it and put it towards the new building."

Almost $145,000 was needed to pay off the new Jackson Senior Center. The old building's sale price was $129,000.

Funds for the new $800,000 senior center came from a state grant, Cape Girardeau County and an anonymous donation of $100,000. Procter & Gamble and the Lichtenegger family donated the land for the new center.
