Robert A. Drury, owner of Drury Southwest Inc., recently announced the promotion of Dennis Vollink to the position of president. Drury Southwest is involved in a variety of commercial and industrial developments and construction in the Cape Girardeau and San Antonio, Texas, areas. Vollink will be in charge of all construction, renovation, real estate development and marketing. Vollink is a member of several national and state professional engineering associations and is a licensed professional engineer in states in which Drury Southwest owns and builds hotels. Vollink previously served as vice president. He is also president of DSW Development Corp. and serves on the board of directors for Drury Inns, Inc. He also serves as a member of the Foundation Board of St. Francis Medical Center and the River Campus Board of Managers. Before joining Drury Southwest in 1981, Vollink was a p@Subhead - briefs:ilot instructor for the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Aaron Andrews of Ruopp Chiropractic & Associates in Cape Girardeau recently passed the examination for Fellowship status of the College Board of Chiropractic Neurology. This further education and training will enable him to provide advanced neurological applications specific to chiropractic practice using non-pharmaceutical and non-surgical techniques. These techniques will allow him to diagnose, treat or co-manage patients with common neurological disorders such as vertigo, spinal cord syndromes, Parkinson's disease and others not commonly seen in a chiropractic office.

Richard Cuba, Mary McElreath Kistner and Steve Taylor were named new members of the Saint Francis Foundation at the group's July meeting. William Kiel, CFRE, is executive director of the foundation, which is based in Cape Girardeau.

David Plassman, a CPA with Schott & Van de Ven in Cape Girardeau, has completed a three-day program on retirement plan design and administration. Topics included types of qualified plans, eligibility and participation, employer contributions, 401(k) requirements and plan distributions. Plassman works with employee benefit plans. He is a member of the Missouri Society of CPAs.

Linda Logan, an assistant professor at Southeast Missouri Hospital's College of Nursing and Health Sciences, received a Missouri League for Nursing Certificate of Recognition during National Nurses Week recently. Logan was selected by the administration at the college based on her leadership skills, interpersonal skills and continuing professional growth. The certificate was presented in recognition of dedicated service and professional excellence in nursing.

Gwen Thoma, educational services director at Southeast Missouri Hospital, recently presented a session on transformational teaching strategies at the Missouri League for Nursing's First Missouri Leadership Institute for Nurse Educators held at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Thoma has been employed by Southeast since 1969. The purpose of the institute is to expand the leadership skills of the nurse educator in all health-care settings and provide a means to enhance faculty development by preparing educators as "master teachers." Results of the program will help provide improved learning environments for new and experienced nurses. A comprehensive report of participants' learning outcomes will be compiled and presented at the annual Missouri League for Nursing Convention in April 2003.

Cape Girardeau native Scott Cox has received an award as outstanding morning show disc jockey for his "Kerry and Uncle in the Morning," show on KCLR in Columbia, Mo. Cox is a 1985 graduate of Central High School and 1989 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. He is on the air in the mornings with Kerry Cowgill of Columbia. The presentation was made at the annual banquet and awards meeting of the Missouri State Broadcasters Association in Kansas City. Cox is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Cox of Cape Girardeau.

Gary Johnson, CPA, has been named chair-elect of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA). He is serving a one-year term, which began July 1. Johnson will lead the society as chairman during the 2003-2004 year. Johnson is a professor of accounting at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. He joined MSCPA in 1984 and has served on the society's board of directors and on the accounting and auditing careers committee.

In Poplar Bluff, Daily American Republic managing editor Stan Berry has won the 2002 News Media Award for daily newspapers given annually by the Jefferson City-based Missouri Community College Association. Nominating Berry for the award was Three Rivers Community College President Dr. John Cooper.

Carol Jenson has received her pedorthist certification from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Jenson, who has worked at John's Pharmacy in Cape Girardeau for two years, does custom orthodics and shoe modifications for people with diabetes who often have circulation trouble in their feet.

Prudential Financial Inc., announces that William Brockmire, a representative with Prudential's Cape Girardeau office, has qualified for membership in the Million Dollar Round Table -- one of the life insurance industry's most prestigious organizations. Membership is based on excellence in customer sales and service. Only a small percentage of life insurance professionals qualify for membership each year.

Ryan Pennington, a member of the service staff at Schaefer Water Centers in Cape Girardeau, has completed the professional service seminar at Kinetico's Service Academy in Newbury, Ohio. Pennington, along with three other service professionals working for Schaefer's, participated in this intensive service training seminar conducted by Kinetico, a manufacturer of non-electric, metered, demand operated, twin tank water softening equipment.

Elizabeth Long of Dexter was recently notified by the Missouri State Board of Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors that she has passed the day-long licensing examination and has been granted a license as registered professional engineer. Long has completed the required internship. She has been an engineer-in-training since 1991. She is employed by William A. Green & Associates Inc. of Malden.

Rubber Stampin' Retailer Magazine, the only national rubber stamp publication targeted to retailers,

has announced that InKleined To Stamp of Ste. Genevieve has been awarded the Retailer of the Year in the under $100,000 category. Pam and Ron Klein started InKleined To Stamp in 1995. It has been at its current location inside a local gift store, the Craft Depot, since 1998.

Camelot Nursing Center in Farmington, a Beverly Healthcare nursing home, has been selected to receive Beverly Healthcare's coveted Award of Excellence (E-Award), the company's highest honor for superior performance in delivering quality care and services. The nationwide program was established in 1988 to recognize Beverly Healthcare nursing homes that successfully achieved high standards in care delivery and nursing home operations through leadership, stability and teamwork.

Ron and Lavon Scott of County Insurance Associates of Park Hills attended the 103rd annual Convention of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents on July 18-20 at Tan-Tar-A Resort at the Lake of the Ozarks. The convention opened with an issue forum addressing key issues impacting the insurance industry: federal regulations and oversight, privacy issues, proposals for a federal backstop for reinsurers and the current insurance marketplace.

Billy Jay Collier, a Procter & Gamble shift leader for 25 years, will retire Aug. 22. Collier, 58, has never missed a day of work. His retirement part@Subhead - briefs:y was held last weekend at the Holiday Inn.

Keith Russell, a professor of accounting, finance and business policy at Southeast Missouri State University, has been appointed chair of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants Board of Regents for 2002-2003. The ICMA administers the certified management accountant and certified management examinations. The board of regents has oversight and responsibility for development of the certification examinations, identification of professional expectations of certificate holders and related standards of ethical conduct.

Senior sales director Jana Jateff of Cape Girardeau received national honors at the annual Mary Kay Cosmetics seminar in Dallas, Texas. Jateff led her unit to the $300,000 club for the 2002 seminar year. Jateff also earned a diamond and amethyst ring for personal sales of over $32,000 for the year.

Kathy Sheldon-Mungle, an Edward Jones investment representative in Kennett, recently was awarded the company's Jack Phelan Award for her outstanding sales and service efforts over the past year. The award is named for the firm's former national sales manager, Jack Phelan. Mungle is one of just 1,667 of the firm's more than 8,700 investment representatives who received the award.

Eric Tanner of Hayti recently returned from Missouri Auction School in St. Joseph where he successfully completed the nine-day course in auctioneering and auction sales management. He received his diploma and the honorary title of colonel.

Kenneth Volkerding of Jackson has earned the honor of membership into the Million Dollar Round Table. Volkerding is a financial associate with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The MDRT is an international, independent association of leading life insurance producers. Volkerding is with the Kansas Missouri Regional Financial Office in Leawood, Kan., and serves Lutherans and their family members in the surrounding communities.

David Hahs, financial representative, received the Diamond Award and was recognized July 22 during the 122nd annual meeting of the Association of Agents for sales achievements during the year ending May 31. Hahs is associated with the network's Hahs District Agency in Cape Girardeau, of the Hempstead General Agency in St. Louis.

Jayne Ervin of Jayson Jewelers in Cape Girardeau recently joined retail jewelers from across the country in a three-day show that brought in the latest in fine jewelry. The Retail Jewelers Organization held the buying show for its more than 750 members, including Ervin and Regan Kelley. The organization is an exclusive national jewelry-buying group and only the nation's top jewelers, as rated by the Jewelers Board of Trade, are eligible for membership.
