Van de Ven, who is senior director of financial planning, will assume the new responsibility for coordinating the airline's annual operating and capital spending plans, capacity forecasting, revenue and traffic analysis, investment analysis, employee training and providing analytical support and other financial services to various departments.

Van de Ven of Plano, Texas, is a graduate of Cape Central High School and the University of Texas in Austin. He joined Southwest Airlines in 1993.
