Scott Givens, assistant manager of Southeast Missouri Hospital's Main Street Fitness Center in Jackson, Mo., has received certified athletic trainer credentials. The certification involved a written test, a written simulation test and a practical exam.

The certification, awarded through the National Athletic Trainers Association, qualifies successful candidates to cover sporting events, help evaluate injuries and assist with the rehabilitation process of getting athletes back to play.

Givens, an employee at Southeast since 1994, holds a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University in health management/sports medicine.

Givens' other certifications include certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Condition Association; American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer; and certified health fitness instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine.
