Doris Jean Arnold, Karla Marquart and Gary Turner, all of Century 21 Ashland Realty Co., have been honored for outstanding production for 1993.

Arnold qualified as a member of the 1993 Presidents Club, producing a minimum of $90,000 in gross closed commissions for the year.

Marquart qualified as a first-year member of the 1993 Masters Club, producing a minimum of $60,000 in gross closed commission and, or closing a minimum of 24 units for the year.

Arnold and Marquart were among the top 21 agents in the St. Louis region of Century 21 South Central States.

Turner qualified as a Ruby-Level member of the 1993 Masters Club by producing a minimum of $60,000 in gross closed commission and, or closing a minimum of 24 units for two consecutive years.

Century 21 Ashland Realty is at 105 S. Broadview.

James N. Vangilder, president of Havco Wood Products in Cape Girardeau, has been re-elected to the Board of Trustees of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri.

"Our board is responsible for policy determinations and the direct governance of BCBSMo," said Roy Heimburger, BCBSMo president.

Vangilder will serve a three-year term.

Shelia Spillman has been promoted to chief communications officer by Cape County Private Ambulance Service.

Her new duties involve supervision and training of dispatchers. She is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of multiple communications systems including telephone and radio, a computerized mapping and routing system, and the recently installed E911 system.

Spillman is a Missouri-licensed paramedic with five years of field experience. She is a certified and nationally registered emergency medical dispatcher. She also has certifications in advanced coronary life support, advanced pre-hospital trauma life support, and pediatric advanced life support. She has successfully completed training in emergency vehicle operations, earthquake preparedness and multi-casualty incident command and triage.

Spillman, a member of the Naval Reserve, joined Cape County Private Ambulance in 1989.

Dr. Robert Kessinger, a specific chiropractor in Cape Girardeau, has returned from a trip to Russia, where he participated in a research program.

Kessinger is a fellow Kale certified specific chiropractor and a certified instructor. He has a practice at 1424 Kurre Lane.

Dr. Michael Kale presented a paper to the European International Medical Society on the subject of upper cervical specific during the trip.

Attorney Jeff Dix, Division IV judicial candidate, has been appointed a member of the Community Liaison Council.

The council was formed to help coordinate, develop and improve Division of Youth Services programs in Cape Girardeau County, including programs for the local group homes, after care service, and the family resource unit.

Other members include state Sen. Peter Kinder and state Rep. Mary Kasten.

Marvin L. Miller, special representative in the Cape Girardeau area for Franklin Life Insurance Co., has earned one of the firm's top sales honors.

Miller has been named honorable mention qualifier for Franklin's Centurion Club, a national honor organization of the company's most successful sales associates.

Miller's qualification was based on outstanding personal sales total.

Susan Joyce Smith, student health clinician at Southeast Missouri State University, has been selected to participate in Greater Missouri, Focus on Leadership, a program designed to move women into the executive board room and recognize them as community leaders. Sixty-one participants from across the state have been selected for the program.

Demetrious Karathanos of Southeast Missouri State University has been selected to serve on the 1994 Missouri Quality Award Board of Examiners.

The 65-member board was selected by the Missouri Quality Award Board of Overseers.

The award program is administered by the Excellence in Missouri Foundation, a non-profit group designed to educate Missourians about quality improvement, foster the pursuit of quality in all aspects of Missouri life, and recognize excellence in quality leadership.

Andrea Brown has been appointed regional superintendent of schools in Southern Illinois to complete the term of Jerry Johnson, who has resigned effective Feb. 28.

Brown has served as assistant to Johnson for 11 years.

The region includes five counties -- Alexander, Union, Johnson, Massac and Pulaski.

Brown, a resident of Johnson County, brings a wide range of experience to the regional office. She has been an elementary and special education teacher, a grant writer, project director, and district superintendent.

She has a doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University; a master's degree from the University of Missouri; and a bachelor of arts degree from Clarke College.

Johnson's term expires in August 1995.

Four Southeast Missourians have been elected to leadership positions in the National Cotton Council.

Jim G. Johnson of Vanduser Gin Co. was named chairman of the council's Missouri-Illinois unit; Charles R. Earnest, Dolphin Gin. Co., Steele, and John D. Hux Jr. of Sikeston were named vice chairmen and secretaries of the Missouri-Illinois unit; and Steele cotton grower John Sanders was elected state producer chairman of the group's Producer Steering Committee.

Becky Harris of Senath and Peggy Cannon of Kennett were re-elected Missouri co-chairmen for the National Cotton Women's Committee.

Bernard Elfrank has been named Driver of the Year at Commercial Transport.

Elfrank received his award during the company's annual awards banquet at Drury Inn.

Rick Morgan, truck maintenance director at the Cape Girardeau terminal of Commercial Transport, received an award for outstanding performance during the flood of 1993.

Among those in attendance at the banquet were Bob Stachovic, vice president of operations and sales, and Jack McDaniel, safety director, both of Belleville, Ill.; David Mouser, sales representative; and Charles Daniels, Cape Girardeau terminal manager.

Commercial Transport, headquartered at Belleville, has terminals at Cape Girardeau, Joppa, Ill., and Evansville, Ind.

Kathy Jones and Barbara Blanchard, both of Cape Girardeau, were winners during the grand opening of Stone Mountain Carpet Mill, 410 Siemers. Stone Mountain sells carpet and vinyl flooring at mill outlet prices.
