Mary Henson, Anita Tedder and Carole Stotler have received the designation, certified ophthalmic assistants (C.O.A), after passing certification examinations by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology in St. Louis.
The three are staff members in the ophthalmology office of Dr. Charles H. Cozean Jr., in Doctors' Park.
Stotler and Tedder recently attended an advanced seminar for eximer laser study coordinators and systems operators at VISX Inc. of San Jose, Calif.
Jack Watts has been named manager of the Cape Girardeau Orscheln Farm & Home store at 339 S. Christine.
Watts replaced Bob Foulke, who transferred to Hutchinson, Kan., to manage an Orscheln store.
Watts, who has several years retail experience, joined Orscheln at Fairfield, Iowa, in February as a manager trainee. He previously worked as manager for Service Merchandise more than seven years.
Watts is graduate of Mankato (Minn.) State University, majoring in both business management and industrial relations, with minors in electronics and economics.
Bill Givens, formerly of Cape Girardeau, has been named vice president of store support services with Jiffy Lube International Inc. at Houston.
Givens' new responsibilities include environmental and safety compliance, training, customer service, research and development and statistical systems in the combined company store and franchise system.
Givens joined Jiffy Lube in 1992. He previously served in a sales management position at Western Auto Co.
Rose Ann Bailes has joined Perry County Memorial Hospital as director of the JobMed program.
Bailes has clinical and industrial knowledge. She spent more than 13 years serving occupational medicine needs for an employer with 3,000 employees.
Ted Rose of Machinery Maintenance Inc., with offices in Cape Girardeau, Fenton and Quincy, Ill., recently attended a Case construction and utility equipment meeting at St. Louis.
Dealers attending the meeting received an update on Case's new products and product-development plans. Several seminars were conducted involving Case parts and services.
Case, headquartered in Racine, Wis., manufactures and distributes light and medium-sized construction and agricultural equipment.
Rep. Bill Emerson, R-Cape Girardeau, has been named "Guardian of Small Buisness" by the nation's largest small-business advocacy organization, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
In presenting the award, Jack Faris, NFIB president, cited Emerson's 100 percent pro-small business voting record during the 103rd Congress.
NFIB represents more than 600,000 small and independent companies nationally.
Frank Ellis, former state legislator and director for Black River Electric Cooperative at Fredericktown, has received the 1994 Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC).
AMEC is the statewide service organization for Missouri's 48 member-owned electric cooperatives.
Ellis, who lives near Sedgewickville, was elected director of the Black River Cooperative in 1962. He served as a director 32 years, until June.
He was also elected as a state representative in 1962, and served 26 years in the legislature.
Gerri Stone, a registered nurse and owner of Professional Fashion Uniform, Plaza Way, attended a Norvell Bra Co. workshop at St. Louis recently.
She taught one of the courses, on fitting for mastectomy patients. Stone is a trained certified fitter.
