Dr. Michael C. Wulfers of Cape Girardeau and Dr. Ramiro Icaza of Jackson were among the more than 250 family physicians who attended the 46th annual Scientific Assembly of the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians held recently at Osage Beach.

The assembly is a chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Topics covered during the four-day meeting included overuse injuries of the lower extremity, managing cancer pain, HIV management, domestic violence, hand fractures and Lyme disease.

Physicians attending the conference obtained continuing medical education credit.

David Walker, administrator of Jackson Manor, has been named "Administrator-Member of the Year" by the Missouri League of Nursing Home Administrators.

The award, presented during the league's annual convention held last month at Lake of the Ozarks, recognizes a member for service and dedication to the organization's mission, which is to enhance the quality of life for long-term care residents.

Walker, a league member since 1984, has been administrator of the 90-bed skilled nursing facility in Jackson more than two years. He was one of seven members nominated for the honor.

J. Ronald Miller, who served as plant manager of the Cape Girardeau Procter & Gamble plant in 1984, has been named vice president, worldwide product supply coordination-laundry products and fabric conditioners, with P&G.

Miller's promotion was announced recently by the P&G board of directors.

Miller transferred to P&G corporate headquarters in Cincinnati in 1984.

David W. Kemper, chairman and chief executive officer of Commerce Bancshares, Inc., will discus "Banking in the 90s" during a business luncheon,to be held July 14 at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau.

William Bunch, community services director for East Missouri Action Agency, recently attended the annual Community Action Agency Executive Development Institute, held at Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville.

Also attending from the agency were Kaye DeGonia, head bookkeeper of the local organization, and Renee Killian, Head Start Social Service/Parent Involvement coordinator.

East Missouri Action Agency represents eight counties, including Cape Girardeau, Perry, Bollinger and Madison.

Among topics discussed at the conference were management control systems, impact evaluation and managing a community network.

Kathie Huttegger of Perryville has earned the designation of Accredited Record Technician.

In order to receive the ART certification, a candidate must complete an associate degree in health information management or medical record technology and pass a certification examination.

The certification, says the American Health Information Management Association, signifies a skilled professional with the highest level of technical expertise in managing health data.

John Zimmer of KZIM/KEZS, Cape Girardeau, is president-elect of the Missouri Broadcasters Association.

The association elected new officers during its annual convention recently.

John C. Ross, KCTV, Kansas City, was elected president; Zimmer, president-elect; Ron Carter, KMBZ/KLTH/KCMO, Kansas City, secretary-treasurer.

Reelected to the board of directors was Steve Engles, KBSI-TV, Cape Girardeau.

Vic Picar, owner of Roto-Rooter's Cape Girardeau franchise, recently attended a regional Roto-Rooter management conference at Kansas City.

Picar participated in discussions concerning issues facing the plumbing, sewer and drain cleaning industry, and application of new training techniques and research methods.

Roto-Rooter, a provider of sewer and drain cleaning services in the United States and Canada, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, was established in 1935 and has 547 independent franchises and 78 company-owned operations.

Charles F. Blattner III has been named to the Commerce Bank of Southeast Missouri's Advisory Board of Directors.

Blattner, of Cape Girardeau, a member of the Cape Girardeau Area Engineers Club and American Institute of Steel Construction, is owner of Blattner Associates of Cape Girardeau.

He was previously affiliated with Potashnick Construction in San Pedro, Calif., as an engineer and later with Campbell Design Group of St. Louis as an engineer. He opened Blattner Steel Co. in Cape Girardeau in 1987, and Blattner Associates in 1992.

Blattner is a graduate of University of Missouri-Rolla, with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering.

Nancy Zurbuchen, founder of Communications by Design will discuss "Taking Video to Print" and "What's the Difference Between CD and CD-Rom, and Why Should You Care" at the monthly meeting of the Advertising Federation of Southeast Missouri July 14.

The noon luncheon will be held at the Drury Inn in Cape Girardeau, starting at 11:30 a.m. with a social, to be followed by the luncheon presentation at noon.

Zurbuchen founded the design company after leaving Hallmark Cards, Inc., 12 years. She is also founder of Motional Images Animation in Kansas City. Her company recently became a partnership which produces interactive programs nationally and internationally.
