Sarah Young, formerly of Cape Girardeau, has joined Smith & Co. Engineers at Poplar Bluff as a design engineer.

Young, who has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, previously worked with the U.S. Public Health Service at Billings, Mont. She worked as intern in the engineering department with the city of Branson, Mo.

While attending UMR, Young was awarded the TWA Environmental Science and Engineering scholarship, the Albert Happy Civil Engineering scholarship, the Women in Engineering scholarship, and the Missouri "Bright Flight" scholarship.

Dr. Donald Dennington a local orthodontist, recently sponsored an educational seminar for dentists.

Dr. Joseph O'Neil, an educator and recipient of the Pegasus Award for creativity from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, was guest speaker. His topic was "Optimal Dentistry."

Dr. Gary J. Bridges, a Cape Girardeau chiropractor, recently attended a two-day, 16-hour continuing education seminar sponsored by the Missouri State Chiropractor Association.

The seminar, on Neurological Rehabilitation, was presented by Kurt A. Vreeland, a graduate of Logan College of chiropractic and a diplomate in Kinesiology and board-qualified by the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists and Neurology.

Bridges, a graduate of Logan College in St. Louis, practices at 1301 N. Kingshighway.

Dorothy Pirtle of Mounds recently retired from Tip of Illinois Health Services Inc.

Pirtle was guest of honor at a retirement party recently. Evelyn Taylor, Tip branch manager, presented Pirtle with a plaque. Pirtle was a home health aid for more than 14 years.

Tip, in operation since 1976, serves the lower 26 Southern Illinois counties and provides therapy, nursing and other home health services.

Keith A. Kirk, a native of Sikeston, has been named vice president of the Dutko Group Inc., a government relations company, 412 First St., S.E., Washington D.C.

Kirk recently joined the company as vice president, specializing in rural and environmental issues.

Prior to joining Dutko, Kirk served as political consultant to various businesses. Kirk, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in public relations and political science, previously served as a senior aide for Rep. Bill Emerson, R-Cape Girardeau.

Jim Crain, of the Cape Girardeau Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, 864 N. Kingshighway, has received a Medicine Shoppe Communicty Service award for 1994 from Medicine Shoppe International Inc.

The award is presented to Medicine Shoppe pharmacists for ongoing community health care events, including free health care screenings and patient consultations.

The Medicine Shoppe here is a part of a system of more than 1,000 franchised pharmacies in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Dale W. Davault and Mark C. McCormick, agents at the Davault Agency Inc., 824 Independence, recently attended Old American Insurance Co.'s Educational Seminar, held in Kauai, Hawaii.

The two were among 120 agents who qualified for the seminar, based on sales production.

Leon Brack has been appointed industrial relations manager for the Gates Rubber Co. hose manufacturing facility at Poplar Bluff.

Brack, a native of Russell, Kan., attended Fort Hayes State University. He started his career at Gates in Denver in 1972.

Cape Girardeans Tom Ramsey and Robert G. Bowman and Melvin Beal of Oran were winners during the Kasten Masonry anniversary celebration recently.

Ramsey was winner of a spa, and Bowman was a winner of a swimming pool. Beal was winner of a gun safe.

The Jackson clay products company and its three separate corporations, Kasten Clay Products, Kasten Concrete Products and Kasten Masonry Sales Inc., recently observed its 100th anniversary.

Karla Marquart of the Century 21 Ashland Realty Co. has been honored for outstanding production for 1994.

Marquart qualified as a member of the 1994 Century 21 President's Club, Master's Club and 21 Club.

President's Club and Master's Club awards are presented to agents who maintain high levels of production throughout the year. The 21 Club is presented to agents who are among the top 21 in their region in production.

Century 21 Ashland Realty, 105 S. Broadview in Cape Girardeau, is in the St. Louis region of Century 21 South Central States.

Tracey A. Nobil has been named general manager at University Mall in Carbondale, Ill.

Nobil is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor's degree in economics. He joined Heitman Retail Properties, which manages University Mall, in 1994. Previous experience includes management positions with Robinson Humphrey Properties, Balcor Property Management and First Washington Management.

In another appointment at University Mall, Jerri L. Uffelman has been named mall marketing director. Uffelman is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and is completing her master's in business administration at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Jeff Myers of Festus has been promoted to functional manager of Prudential's new Poplar Bluff agency.

Myers had been a representative with the St. Charles Prudential agency since 1991.
