PERRYVILLE -- The Perryville Municipal Airport is slated to receive $150,000 for needed improvements.
The state Department of Transportation has announced that Perryville and other smaller airports throughout Missouri will share more than $13 million in federal grants this year for facility improvements.
The money was included in grants announced in March.
Missouri is one of nine states that currently administer federal aviation funding to the airports under the State Block Grant Program. Funding is generated from aviation user fees on airline tickets and from the sale of aviation fuels. It does not come from general tax revenue and can only be used for aviation projects.
There are 129 public-use airports in Missouri -- eight commercial and 121 for general aviation use.
The money could be used for signing for restricted areas and vulnerable facilities, guidance to improve security and other needs.
