KBSI Fox 23 general manager Mike Smythe recently won his 10th Best Editorial Award at the Missouri Broadcasters Association annual convention for his ViewPoint segment that aired on KFVS12. Smythe retired from the station in 2011 but returned to Cape Girardeau to run FOX 23 KBSI (Fox) and MY 49 WDKA (MyNetwork TV) in March. Since returning, Smythe has continued his commentaries. His new segments are now are called "Perspective" and air at 9:55 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. Smythe also served this past year as the chairman of the Missouri Broadcasters Association, which includes nearly 50 television stations and more than 300 radio stations.
Nicole Moore has been named financial representative for Modern Woodmen of America in Southeast Missouri. Moore offers life insurance and annuity products for families and businesses, as well as fraternal member benefits and community service programs to meet the needs of local members. Modern Woodmen is a fraternal life insurance society based in Rock Island, Ill., serving more than three quarters of a million members nationwide.
Danetta Mason has joined the Belladona Salon & Spa staff. She is a stylist at the City Centre location.
Hendrickson Business Advisors announced the most recent group to graduate from the Dale Carnegie Course since forming a partnership with Dale Carnegie Training in St. Louis. The 14 graduates of the course are Ronnie Bowers of Havco Wood Products, Claire Bruce of Merchapolitan, Jessica Butler of Nestle Purina, Gerald Essner of Do It Best, Jennifer Hendrickson of Hendrickson Business Advisors, Randy Horrell of Do It Best, John Hoskins of Procter & Gamble, Deb Martin of Realty Executives of Cape County, John McGowan of Love INC, Christy Mershon of Southeast Missouri State University, Todd Mueller of Do It Best, Joe Ohmes of Individual, Mitch Riegert of Do It Best and Melanie Smollen of Faith Perceptions. During the course, the participants focused on self-confidence, building relationships, motivation, effective communication, stress and worry management and leadership skills.
Brian Noto was recognized as a wine location specialist by the Center for Wine Origins. The Washington, D.C.-based organization aims to educate about the importance of location when it comes to wine and to gain greater protection of wine place names. The certificate is accredited by the Comite Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne, the trade association that represents all the grape growers and houses of Champagne; and the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto, the trade association that represents all the grape growers and houses in Porto and the Douro Valley. Noto plans to lead a series of wine education seminars, tastings and dinners specific to the Champagne and Port regions.
