Ernst & Young LLP selected Jerry Howe, CEO of Big River Telephone Co. in Cape Girardeau, as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the central Midwest. This group of entrepreneurs was selected by an independent judging panel made up of regional business, academic and community leaders. The winners will be revealed at a gala event Wednesday at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel. The Entrepreneur of the Year program honors regional entrepreneurs in June, leading up to the national awards in November. The overall national U.S. winner then moves on to compete for the World Entrepreneur of the Year title in June 2011. This year, the Entrepreneur of the Year awards program celebrates its 24th anniversary. All regional honorees are invited to the national Entrepreneur of the Year gala, hosted by Jay Leno, on Nov. 13 in Palm Springs, Calif.
Forensic nurse Lisa Baker, BSN, recently received sexual assault nurse examiner-pediatric and sexual assault nurse examiner-adolescent certification from the International Association of Forensic Nursing. She is the fourth SANE-P and 28th certified SANE-A nurse in Missouri. Baker is enrolled in the family nurse practitioner program at Saint Louis University and is employed at the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence in Cape Girardeau as a forensic nurse and forensic interviewer. The international certification is granted only to forensic nurses who have met the criteria of education, clinical practice and have passed the board exam.
