Several employees were recently recognized for outstanding performance and workplace longevity at the Mineral Area College Awards Banquet. General services supervisor Tom Bowyer of Park Hills, Mo., was among the three top award winners. He received the Classified Staff Employee of the Year Award. Bowyer, who is retiring this year, has been with the college since 1979. Workforce development director Bev Hickam of Cape Girardeau was honored with the Mineral Area College Leadership Award. Hickam has been working for the college since 1999. Diana Stuart received the Faculty of the Year Award. Stuart oversees the community college's teacher education program and coordinates the college's AQIP accreditation process of continuous quality improvement. Stuart, of Farmington, Mo., has worked full time for the college for 22 years and also serves as the Education Department chairwoman.
Kelly Darby of Jackson, a financial representative with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, was named New Member Leader in the Missouri East Region for April. Darby has been with Modern Woodmen since November 2010.
Rep. Steve Hodges, D-East Prairie, was recently honored by the Missouri Association of School Administrators. He was one of eight people who received the association's Friend of Education award. Hodges was recognized as a legislator with a record for supporting education. He was nominated for the award by school administrators in the Southeast district. This award is presented annually to recognize noneducators, one from each of the eight districts, for their contribution to education locally or statewide.
American Honda recently announced that Cape Girardeau Honda was awarded the 2011 President's Award. The award is the highest honor Honda can bestow on a dealership and goes to only the top 15 percent of Honda dealerships in the United States. It is based on dealership excellence in areas such as customer satisfaction and sales volume. Cape Girardeau Honda was the only Honda dealer in Missouri to win the award in 2010 and the only Missouri Honda dealer to win it consecutively in 2010 and 2011.
