Robert M. Shirley was named president of Campbell Mattress on March 22. Previous owner and president Norman Wood, 87, died March 6. Shirley was appointed to his new position by the Wood family. Shirley retired in 2003 after working for Emerson Electric for 42 years. During that time he held various positions including plant manager of several facilities, director of operations and director of process engineering. In recent years he's worked as a contractor on a number of special projects for Emerson in Thailand, China and Mexico. Shirley grew up in Cape Girardeau, leaving to attend college at Memphis State University and moving back 35 years later with his wife, Janice. The couple have two grown children and two grandchildren. Campbell Mattress employs about 40 people. Shirley said no immediate changes in staff or operations are planned at this time. The company was founded in 1933 by Manuel Campbell. Wood purchased the company in the 1970s and managed the business until his death.
John W. Brey of Jackson has been named branch manager at Capaha Bank's William Street location in Cape Girardeau. Brey has been with Capaha Bank for more than three years and previously worked in its Cairo, Ill., branch as assistant vice-president/assistant branch manager. He also worked previously for Wood and Huston Bank as a consumer banker.
Kenneth Volkerding of Cape Girardeau was named to the Modern Woodmen's 2009 President's Cabinet. This award recognizes Volkerding's high achievement in life insurance sales and ranking among the organization's top representatives nationwide.
The Jana Jateff unit with Mary Kay Cosmetics was recognized at a recent quarterly performance dinner. Michelle Stoverink of Leopold. Mo., and Jana Jateff were honored for their individual sales achievements.
Crystal Burress of Jackson is now a financial representative for Modern Woodmen of America in Jackson. She specializes in life insurance and annuity products for families and businesses as well as fraternal member benefits and community service programs. Modern Woodmen is a fraternal life insurance society headquartered in Rock Island, Ill.
