Local instructor celebrates students' achievements
Janet Presson, instructor at Keyboards & Kindermusik Conservatory in Cape Girardeau, recently saw a 200th Gold Cup earned by her students in the National Junior Music Festival. To receive a Gold Cup, a student must compete at a minimum of three years while earning the top rating. A student can earn up to five Gold Cup awards. Presson holds a bachelor's degree in music education and a masters degree in teaching from Southeast Missouri State University. She also completed post-graduate work from the University of South Carolina.
Chaffee, Mo., corn growers win state, national honors
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Charles and Glenda Hinkebein and Hinkebein & Landewee Farm, all of Chaffee were recent state winners in the 2008 National Corn Yield Contest, sponsored annually by the National Corn Growers Association. Charles placed third in the state in the Irrigated Class with a yield of 283.5234 bushels per acre. Glenda placed second in the state in the Irrigated Class with a yield of 286.3162 bushels per acre. Hinkebein & Landewee Farm placed third in the state in the Ridge Till Non-Irrigated Class with a yield of 277.6861 bushels per acre. The growers were among the 520 state winners nationwide. The 2008 contest had a record 6,727 entires from 46 states.

Mary Kay Inc. has promoted Bobbi Bonds of Cape Girardeau to independent sales director. She is one of 34,000 independent sales director for the direct-sales company worldwide.
Jackson real estate agent earns top spot in region
RE/MAX International has awarded Debbie Jennings of Jackson the No. 1 spot among top individuals in the RE/MAX St. Louis Region for the month of January. As a member of RE/MAX Realty Experts, Jennings serves Bollinger, Cape Girardeau and Scott counties.
Soto joins SOTO Property Management part-time
After receiving her real estate license earlier this year, Joyce Soto is joining her husband Dave on a part-time basis in the business at SOTO Property Management in Cape Girardeau. Joyce's responsibilities will be sales, marketing and promotion.
