Southeast Missourian managing editor Matt Sanders will celebrate his last day at the Southeast Missourian on Tuesday. Sanders and his family will move to Columbia, Mo., as he takes the position of city editor at the Columbia Daily Tribune. Sanders began his career with Rust Communications as an intern in the summer of 2003. He then covered arts and entertainment and Scott City and Scott County news. Sanders then worked as the online product manager for three years and helped the Southeast Missourian transform from a print-only publication to a print and digital publication. Sanders worked his way up to co-managing editor, and then took the managing editor position in March 2012.

The city of Sikeston, Mo., is pleased to announce the hiring of Jonathan M. Douglass for the position of city manager. His first date of employment will be Dec. 2. Douglass was previously employed by the city of Lawrence, Kan., where he served as city clerk and assistant city manager.
The city of Sikeston, Mo., is pleased to announce the appointment of Jay Lancaster to the position of public works director. Lancaster attended Sikeston public schools and graduated magna cum laude from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in December 1994. Lancaster has been employed by the Department of Transportation since 2000, currently overseeing the Planning Department for the Southeast District of MoDOT.
The law firm of Sandberg Phoenix and von Gontard P.C. has announced the appointment of Jennifer Miller-Louw as a new shareholder in the firm. Miller-Louw has offered expert service to clients in Southern Illinois and Missouri and throughout the Midwest for the last eight years. Serving as a summer intern in 2004, Miller-Louw joined Sandberg Phoenix in 2005 as an associate in the St. Louis office before moving to Sandberg Phoenix Carbondale in 2008. She has developed considerable experience in health law, medical malpractice and business litigation. In her new role, Miller-Louw will continue to provide expert legal counsel to clients from Sandberg Phoenix's Carbondale office.
Dr. John L. Sauer, DDS, and staff are proud to welcome Logan Birk as full-time registered dental hygienist. Birk recently attended Missouri Southern State University where she studied and obtained her registered dental hygienist diploma. She then received her license from the State of Missouri Dental Board after vigorous studies to meet and pass the board's state-required finals. Prior to attending Missouri Southern, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Sauer while attending Southeast Missouri State University to obtain the pre-requirements for Missouri Southern's dental-hygiene program. Birk graduated from Jackson High School in 2009.
Dr. David L. Kaelin, Nicole Lewis and Katie Roth of Kaelin Dental Group in Cape Girardeau attended the Invisalign General Practioner and Hygiene Expo in Chicago on Oct. 25. The seminar increased their knowledge of diagnosing and treating patients who need Invisalign treatment. Courses included a team approach to improving periodontal health, restorative care, and ultimate patient satisfaction. Kaelin Dental Group was the only office in the state of Missouri to attend the Invisalign seminar.
