Four finish first in national accounting competition
Four students at Southeast Missouri State University finished first in the nation in the Institute of Management Accountants National Video Showcase Competition held last month in San Antonio, Texas, at the Beta Alpha Psi annual conference.
The students are in the bachelor of science in business administration program in the Harrison College of Business.
Sarah Berkbigler of Perryville, Mo., Melissa Bryant of Bridgeton, Mo., Jacquelyn Collins of Cape Girardeau and Matthew Pierce of Patton, Mo., submitted a videotaped presentation to the IMA in March.
The university received $5,000 for placing first in the competition. The students have chosen to donate their cash award to the accounting and finance club at the university.
Accountant attends workshop on consulting
Lonnie R. Lusk, accounting supervisor for Schott & Van de Ven Certified Public Accountants, has attended a workshop on advising and consulting to the small business.
Lusk learned effective methods for analyzing client needs and how to serve as an external business consultant.
Lusk is a certified public account and has been with the firm since 1997. He has an extensive background in banking and business management. Lusk is a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Schott & Van de Ven is a full-service public accounting firm at 1020 N. Kingshighway, Suite D, in Cape Girardeau.
Tolliver to serve on state bankers committee
Roger Tolliver, president and group manager of Commerce Bank in Cape Girardeau, has been appointed to serve on the Government Relations Committee of the Missouri Bankers Association. The committee develops policy recommendations on state and federal legislation affecting Missouri commercial banks.
The Missouri Bankers Association is a statewide trade and professional organization that represents the interest of 389 banks and savings and loans in Missouri. Its members have more than 30,000 employees in 1,880 locations throughout the state.
Dillon resigns from port authority board
Kin Dillon has resigned from the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority Board of Directors. Dillon has served with the board for 14 years in various roles and positions. He served as secretary in 1989, treasurer from 1993-1994, vice chairman in 1995 and chairman from 1997-98. Dillon and his wife Dorothy are relocating to the Springfield, Mo., area. He was recently presented with a plaque for his service.
Schlosser now owns Scott City consulting firm
Kathy Schlosser has recently taken over Appraisal Consultants in Scott City, Mo. The firm was formed in February 1995, specializing in single-family residential appraisals. She has 12 years of experience and has represented many clients in the real estate field. The office is located just off of Interstate 55.
