Development director at Notre Dame named

Tony Buehrle has been named development director at Notre Dame Regional High School, principal Brother David Migliorino announced last week.

Buehrle is a 1972 graduate of Notre Dame High School and a native of Southeast Missouri. He has been employed the past eight years as a regional sales and marketing manager, most recently with Nash Finch in Cincinnati.

Buehrle will report to the principal while working with the school's Foundation Board of Directors in the development of a master plan for the advancement of the school. Other responsibilities will include managing the annual appeal (Notre Dame Sunday), continuous efforts for the enlargement of the endowment through planned giving and selected school marketing and membership development efforts.

Medicap pharmacists receive national awards

Two pharmacists at Medicap Pharmacies, Inc., Ben Talley Jr., R.Ph., and Dave Charlier, R.Ph., have been presented with national awards at the company's recent national annual meeting.

Tally was named to the Master Capsule Club, an award granted to those Medicap Pharmacy franchisees who the company feels has displayed outstanding sales performances during the past year.

Charlier was named to the President's Club, an award presented to the Medicap Pharmacy franchisee who represent the top 20 percent of the nationwide system by store sales during the past fiscal year. The President's Club is the "best of the best" in the Medicap nationwide network of independently owned and operated retail pharmacy locations.

Whitlow elected VP of education group

Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center assistant director Dean Whitlow has been elected vice president of the Missouri Council of Career and Technology Administrators.

Whitlow was elected vice president of the group that is made of administrators from secondary technology schools and colleges statewide at a conference held in Springfield in July.

Whitlow -- who oversees student financial aid, adult enrollment and full-time adult programs at the center -- will serve a four-year appointment after which he will advance to president-elect and then president of the group.

Cheryl Morris and Michael Radake, certified public accountants with Schott & Van de Ven, have completed the course "Applying A-133 to Nonprofit and Governmental Organizations."

The course covered single audit requirements for state, local governments and nonprofit organizations. Held in St. Louis, the class was sponsored by the Missouri Society of CPAs.

Morris graduated summa cum laude from Southeast Missouri State, and Radake graduated cum laude from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Cape native named Texas teacher of the year

Cape Girardeau native Amber Pool, now of Dallas, has been named Teacher of the Year by the Texas Commission of Social Studies in Austin, Texas. The candidates were submitted by their respective high schools throughout the state of Texas. Pool graduated from Central High School in 1996 and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1999 with a degree in history. She is a history teacher at RL Turner High School in Dallas, Texas. She will be traveling to Austin in September along with her principal to accept the award.

Buffalo Wild Wings hires second manager

Julian Chavez of Jackson, Mo., a longtime veteran of the food and beverage industry, has been named co-manager of the Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar in Cape Girardeau. The announcement was made by Bill Zellmer, owner of the local franchise.

Chavez's background includes management and opening team for TGI Friday restaurants in Denver, Colo., San Jose, Calif., and Louisville, Ky. He was director of standards for Host Marriott Corp. and was on the executive development and management team of three sports restaurants for Ann Arbor Hotels. Prior to that, he was in Food Management in the U.S. Navy.

After relocating to Jackson, he owned and operated Julian's Restaurant and Catering Service, later serving as food service director of Chaffee schools and was director of Food Services Consolidated Management at Procter & Gamble.

Chavez will be in charge of all aspects of back of the house operations concentrating on maintaining high standards of food preparation.

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar is scheduled to open this month at 2136 William St. in the Town Plaza Shopping Center.
