Tucker attended Southeast Missouri State University and eventually earned a bachelor's in secondary English education and a master's degree in educational leadership and policies administrative certification from Arizona State University. Tucker began working for the United Way June 1.

Hollerbach selected for visiting professor program

Dr. Karie Hollerbach, assistant professor in the Department of Communication at Southeast Missouri State University, was selected to participate this summer in the 2005 Visiting Professor Program through the Advertising Educational Foundation. The program provides a forum for the exchange of ideas between industry and academia by exposing professors to the daily life of an agency.

Former Cape resident named writer of the year

Justin Heckert of Atlanta and formerly of Cape Girardeau was named writer of the year by the CRMA in the 20th annual National City and Regional Magazine Association's Awards competition at the group's annual conference in Las Vegas last month. A writer with Atlanta Magazine, Heckert graduated from Central High School in 1997 before majoring in magazine journalism at the School of Journalism, University of Missouri-Columbia, where he won the school's top James B. Atwater Memorial Writing Prize, the Don Romero Writing Prize, the Tom Duffy Writing Prize and the Sam Bronstein Award.

UPS driver honored for 30 years of service

Perry Gipson was recently honored by UPS for completing 30 years of service with the company. Gipson, a driver in Cape Girardeau, began his career in 1975 as a unloader with the company.
