Suedekum named VP at 1st Community Bank
Roger Suedekum has been appointed to the position of vice president-real estate loan specialist for 1st Community Bank, which was effective May 1.
Suedekum has more than 30 years of experience in real estate lending in the Cape Girardeau area as the former real estate lender for Union Planters Bank.
Suedekum is a native of Cape Girardeau and a graduate of Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University. Suedekum is maintaining a temporary office at 2749 Thomas Drive until the new building is finished at the corner of Independence and Mount Auburn.
1st Community Bank, with assets of $170 million, has locations in Poplar Bluff, Cape Girardeau, Bernie, Malden and Campbell.
Professor receives soybean research award
Dr. Allen Wrather, professor at the University of Missouri-Delta Center in Portageville, Mo., has received the United Soybean Board's Extension Education Award in Charlotte, N.C.
Wrather has focused his research and extension efforts to prevent U.S. soybean yield losses to disease. Wrather has compiled disease-loss estimates for major diseases in each soybean-producing state. His disease loss-estimate publication is one of the most cited in scientific journals in the United States.
Wrather is the son of Jane Wrather and the late J.O. Wrather.
UPS honors Scott City man for safe driving
Billie Skelton, tractor trailer driver for United Parcel Service, was recently honored for completing 35 years of safe driving with the company. Skelton works out of the UPS facility in Sikeston, Mo., and lives in Scott City.

UPS employs more than 339,000 worldwide. Missouri employs 5,000 and has more than 30 operating centers throughout the state.
Mary Kay director wins use of Cadillac
Mary Kay senior sales director Jana Jateff and her unit have earned the use of their 14th free car with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Jateff and her unit earned the use of a pink Cadillac by selling more than $96,000 in retail products for the past six months. Jateff's 2004 Cadillac will arrive in October.
Jennings joins Coldwell Banker/Abernathy
Deborah L. Jennings has joined Coldwell Banker/Abernathy Realty. The office is at 2737 E. Jackson Blvd. in Jackson and is owned by Liz Abernathy.
Jennings has experience in the construction and housing industries. She has lived in the area for 34 years.

Optician celebrates 10th anniversary
Roger Kirn, master optician, was honored recently for 10 years of service at Regional Eyecare Center in Cape Girardeau.
Kirn has over 34 years of experience as a frame and lens specialist.
