Mattox hired as cancer nurse specialist
Sandy Thompson Mattox has joined the staff at Southeast Missouri Hospital as cancer nurse specialist.
In her new role, Mattox will coordinate care of cancer patients across all settings and the hospital's infusion services, provide patient and staff education and serve as a resource for physicians' offices.
Mattox received her ADN degree in 1980 from Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She received her BSN/RNP and MNSc degrees from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Mattox has served as head nurse for oncology services at Doctors' Hospital in Little Rock and as nurse manager for hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. She was affiliated with the Arkansas Cancer Research Center, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for nine years.
Before coming to Southeast, Mattox was a clinical nurse specialist with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Cape human resources director will retire
City of Cape Girardeau human resources director Dan Ward has announced he will be retiring after 11 years with the city. Ward's last day will be April 18.
Ward said he has enjoyed working with the staff. Heather Brooks, the administrative assistant to the city manager, will serve as acting human resources director until the position is filled.
Northwestern Mutual hires new financial rep
Michelle Barber has been hired as a financial representative by Northwestern Mutual in Cape Girardeau. She will be associated with the Hahs Agency.
As a financial representative, Barber will join a network of specialists offering a wide array of products including life insurance, disability income insurance and annuities.
Before joining Northwestern Mutual, Barber was office manager at Marvin Adams State Farm Insurance in Jackson. Barber is a native of Jackson and is currently attending Southeast Missouri State University.
Elfrink named to food service task force
Lisa Elfrink, food service director for the Cape Girardeau School District, has been selected to serve on the AgriMissouri School Food Service Task Force. The task force held its first meeting March 5 at the Missouri Department of Agriculture headquarters in Jefferson City.
The department's AgriMissouri Program created the task force to help identify ways to incorporate Missouri products into school breakfast and lunch menus.
The first meeting focused on the products and fresh produce Missouri school districts could incorporate based on federal dietary requirements, nutrition, recipes used and cost. First lady Lori Hauser Holden joined the group for lunch.
Presto-X names technician of the year
Russell W. Boswell of Cape Girardeau was honored as 2002 Technician of the Year for the St. Louis branch of Presto-X-Company. Boswell was also honored with the One Year Safe Driving Award.
He received this award at this year's Presto-X-Company Technical Conference, which was held in Omaha, Neb. Presto-X is a commercial and industrial pest management firm, which has been in business since 1932.
SEMO senior new intern for Northwestern Mutual
Northwestern Mutual Financial Network has announced Lance Crawford is participating in its nationally recognized financial representative internship program at the Hahs Agency.
Crawford is a senior at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. He is a resident of Steele, Mo., and is the son of Allen and Donna Crawford.
Interns attend weekly courses that focus on Northwestern Mutual's philosophy and receive basic instruction in life and disability income writing.
Interns also have the opportunity to travel to Northwestern Mutual's annual meeting held each July in Milwaukee, Wis. Since the program began in 1967, more than 12,000 financial representative interns have participated in the internship.
Aircraft technician gets FAA's highest award
Roy A. Sale, a Cape Girardeau aircraft maintenance technician, has received the highest award possible for aircraft maintenance, the Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award.
The award was presented by officials from the Federal Aviation Administration at an award banquet on Feb. 22 at Holiday Inn in Collinsville, Ill.
To be eligible for the master mechanic award, the recipient must have been in aviation maintenance for a minimum of 50 years and must have held an aircraft and engine mechanic license for a minimum of 30 years.
Sale served in the Air Force before working at the airport in Malden, Mo., Cape Central Airways, the FAA, and Air Evac EMS in Cape Girardeau. Sale is still working part time for Ozark Aircraft maintenance at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
Two ABS employees celebrate milestones
Jerry Chism, a service technician at Advanced Business Systems, will celebrate his 25th year with the company this week, company owner Jack Mehner announced last week.
Also, Tom Unterreiner, service manager, will celebrate 40 years with the company in August.
Mehner said both employees have been hard-working and loyal.
