Nursing college president gets doctorate degree

Tonya Buttry, president of Southeast Missouri Hospital's College of Nursing and Health Sciences, has received her doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Her specialization is in work-force education. Buttry has been with Southeast Missouri Hospital since 1983. She is a licensed registered nurse and is certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center as a medical-surgical nurse.

Accountant completes tax training course

David Haley, staff accountant with Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants, recently completed a two-day training on tax return preparation. Haley learned about the structure of the tax system, tax formulas, computation and alternative minimum tax issues. Haley joined the firm in June, after graduating from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in accounting.

Hospice volunteer coordinator named

Pearla Murphy Smith of Jackson has been named volunteer coordinator for Southeast Hospice, a service of Southeast Missouri Hospital. As volunteer coordinator, Smith will work with the more than 60 men and women who help hospice patients and families and coordinate fund-raising events to benefit those who receive hospice services. Smith has been employed by Southeast Missouri Hospital for 27 years, most recently as a staff member in the Hospital's Generations Family Resource Center. Before becoming volunteer coordinator, Smith served as a hospice volunteer.

Barkley named Procter & Gamble plant manager

Bill Barkley has been assigned as the new Cape Girardeau Family Care Plant manager at Procter & Gamble. Barkley will replace Bob Cleek, who died in December. Barkley graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology and from Morehouse College. His career with Procter & Gamble began in 1982 at the Albany, Ga., plant.
