STE. GENEVIEVE -- Activity is underway at the former U.S. Filter Building at 1035 South Gabouri Street, adjacent to the Biltbest Windows manufacturing facility.
According to Marv Harmon, Ste. Genevieve County economic developer, a portion of the building will soon be home to Orius Corp.'s Telecommunication Services Group, a construction operation whose primary function is installation of underground communication cable.
Divisional Manager Dale Carroll said the company has contracts for cable installation throughout the area, and the Ste. Genevieve satellite office will serve as local headquarters for equipment and dispatching.
Carroll said crews for underground cable installation will arrive at the new Ste. Genevieve location each work day for dispatch to the various work locations in the area. As the spring construction season gears up, local hiring of additional employees is a possibility, said Carroll.
Known to many throughout Missouri and the Midwest as the former Schatz Underground Cable, Orius Corp.'s Telecommunication Services Group has locations at Villa Ridge, Kansas City and Nixa in Missouri. Orius Corp. also includes four broadband cable services locations in Missouri.
Throughout the Orius region, which includes Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, the company has 31 locations in various categories of telecommunication services, broadband cable services, integrated premise services and central office services.
"We're happy to have Orius Group in the community," said Harman. "They represent a huge company, and we are hopeful they will grow and prosper here, ultimately branching out into other areas of service to Southeast Missouri."
