TCI Cablevision customers in Cape Girardeau and Jackson will have access to pay-per-view broadcasts beginning July 1.

Todd Runkwitz, marketing sales manager, said the service will be available to any cable subscriber.

Customers must have a special converter box for the service, available at no charge at the cable offices.

Runkwitz said TCI employees in Cape Girardeau and Jackson have been testing the system for a couple weeks. "It's simple," he said. "Customers actually purchase the movies through an 800 number automatically.

"These are movies straight from Hollywood," he said. "Along with movies, we will offer special events like boxing and wrestling and live concerts. In July, we have a performance by Andrew Dice Clay."

The July line-up includes "A River Runs Through It," "Toys," "Forever Young," "Hellraiser III," "Dracula" and "Used People."

Schedules of the programming available through pay-per-view will be available at the cable offices.

Movies cost $3.99 each. Runkwitz said that during part of July a 99-cent special will be offered.

The movies will be itemized on the customer's monthly cable bill.

"Many TCI systems already offer this," Runkwitz said. "We are in the second phase."

Cape Girardeau customers who patronized Triple 'E' Bar-B-Q restaurants in Southern Illinois convinced Jerry Lenon to open a Triple 'E' Bar-B-Q at Independence Square.

Lenon and co-owner Alec Wissinger own four other Triple 'E' Bar-B-Q restaurants in Illinois: two in Marion, one at Lake of Egypt and one in Herrin.

The Cape Girardeau restaurant opened June 15 and employs 27 people. The manager is Jesse Williams, who had previously managed the Triple 'E' Bar-B-Q in Marion.

"We started in 1985 in the business," Lenon said. "We specialize in barbecue pork, ribs, pork chops, chicken and fried catfish. Our side orders are handmade and made fresh daily. We offer the same food and friendly service here as our other restaurants."

He said customers encouraged them to consider Cape Girardeau.

"Quite a few people from here have come to our other locations," Lenon said. "We thought the location had good potential, and Cape Girardeau seems like a very nice town."

He said barbecue at Triple 'E' is cooked the "old-fashioned way," in a pit. "We have no gas barrels around here."

Whole shoulders, whole hams, whole chickens and slabs of ribs are available for large groups.

Triple 'E' Bar-B-Q is the fourth restaurant to open at the Independence location, but Lenon is not worried.

"We do business based on good, quality food at a good price. That has brought them in everywhere else."

Rotary Clubs of Cape Girardeau and Jackson are looking for sponsors for their first ever Camp Enterprise.

Camp Enterprise will provide local students a two-day weekend workshop on the free-enterprise system in a camp environment.

Approximately 80 students from 12 area high schools have been identified for the program, to be held Sept. 25-26 at Boy Scout Camp Lewallen near Silva.

"We will immerse these kids in the issues of business and free enterprise," said Jeff Krantz, chairman of the program.

"They will be working in small groups of eight to 10 students," he said. "These high school seniors will be wrestling with some of the real issues of the business world."

Students will interact with business executives, politicians, union leaders and government representatives.

Sponsorship levels begin at $50, which allows one student to attend one day of the camp; $100 allows that student to attend all three days.

Corporate sponsorships are available at two levels, gold ($250) and platinum ($500). Platinum level contributors are able to sponsor special events for all students from a particular high school.
