Administration Health Care Institute has opened at 1028 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.
The new institute provides state certification in a number of classes -- Medical Terminology, Medicare/Medicaid Insurance Billing, Medical Transcription and CPT-4/ICD9 Coding.
JoAnne Mackey, administrator and instructor, has more than 12 years of experience in the insurance and health field and has served in as a billing specialist, claims adjuster, training and assistant supervisor.
Mackey was involved in law enforcement, as a deputy sheriff and part-time dispatcher. She has also worked for a private physician as a billing specialist, medical assistant and secretary. Her most recent work was with a large group of OB-GYNs in the St. Louis County area as an insurance representatives.
Admission requirements to the institution require high school educaiton, typing speed of 22 words per minute, and familiarity with basic computer operations. Medical Terminology, however, does not require computer operations or typing.
Medical Terminology, a 36-hour course, is designed to develop skills for upgrading student positions in a physicians' office, hospital or health-care facility.
Medical Transcription is a 60-hour, entry-level program to prepare students to use processors and transcribers. Insurance Billing, a 72-hour course, is designed to develop skills needed for entering the work force as an insurance biller in a hospital or doctor's office.
The Insurance Billing and Medical Transcription course, a 96-hour course, is designed to develop skills for work in a hospital or doctor's office as an insurance biller and medical transcriptionist.
