The Regional Social Scene, Ltd., has been founded in Cape Girardeau.

The club, said its founder, is a social connections and activities organization for single adults, 21 and older in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

"We offer a wide variety of activities and entertainment options in a group atmosphere of friendship and support," said Elizabeth Schmucker.

A kickoff party for the new group was held last week.

"We're looking at a minimum of nine events a month," said Schmucker. "Some of these will be from member suggestions."

The list of options is a lengthy one, ranging from spectator sports to participation sports, dining and dancing to musical, theater and arts, and annual events.

"We're looking at hayrides, bonfire and food; basketball, baseball and other sports; roller-skating and dance contests; tours of vineyards, and summer concerts," said Schmucker.

The group is also looking at learning and enrichment, and community services, such as adopting a highway, park, toys for tots, meals on wheels, and Habitat for Humanity projects.

"We want to emphasize that this is not a dating service," said Schmucker.

Prospective members will complete a two-page membership agreement and fill out a survey form on activities and interests.

A newsletter with an activities schedule will be presented during a special "Social Meeting" each month.

Headquarters for the Regional Social Scene is 800 Broadway, Suite 101. Additional information is available by calling 332-7775.

Schmucker researched a couple of social clubs before establishing the Cape Girardeau group.

Schmucker has more than 25 years in service work. She has a bachelor's degree in business administration and master's in human resource management. She launched the Missouri Mentoring Partnership group in Cape Girardeau and served as its coordinator two years.
