The Sikeston Dragstrip is under new ownership.
Ray Poirier, a Tennessee businessman and drag racer, has acquired the drag strip, an eighth-mile strip north of Sikeston off Interstate 55, and will do business as PRP Racing.
Previous owners of the track, Ron and Freda Mayfield, will continue to work at the track as co-managers.
Racing has started at the track and will continue Saturday nights through Oct. 18.
Poirier is owner of Collierville Motors in Collierville, Tenn., and a partner with Jeff Bouland in Marion Performance Inc. at Marion, Ark. Marion Performance specializes in high-performance and competition racing engines.
Poirier and his wife, Anne, live in Memphis. Both are drag racers, with identical-looking red 1966 Chevrolet Novas. Anne's Nova has a 350-horsepower engine and Ray's racer is powered by a 406-horsepower motor.
