__EMAA DIRECTOR RETIRING, REPLACEMENT NAMED__
PARK HILLS, Mo. — After 38 years with the agency, William (Bill) Bunch, executive director of East Missouri Action Agency of Park Hills, is retiring on July 31. Keri McCrorey, community services director at the organization, was announced as his successor and began her transition into the executive director role on April 1, according to a news release. She will move into the new role completely on Aug. 1. McCrorey has worked at EMAA for more than 26 years. She is a Certified Community Action Professional and has a master’s degree in community and economic development.

Dale Hanebrink of Cape Girardeau was employee of the month for April at Mondi Jackson LLC. Hanebrink, a quality assurance technician, has worked at Mondi since April 18, 2011. __SIKESTON LIBRARY DIRECTOR RETIRING__
SIKESTON, Mo. — Sue Tangeman will retire as director of the Sikeston Public Library on Sept. 1. Ron Eifert, assistant director at the library, will step into the director roll, the Sikeston Standard Democrat reported. Tangeman had worked at the library for about 25 years, and Eifert has been assistant director for the past 11 years.
__JACKSON HIRES NEW SUPERINTENDENT OF FINANCE__
The Jackson School District has a new superintendent of finance and operations. Bleau Deckerd replaces Wade Bartels, who will begin a new position July 1 as community bank president at Alliance Bank in Jackson. Deckerd has been superintendent of the Altenburg School District for eight years and he taught at the elementary-school level earlier in his career, according to information from the district.

__WINDHAM SELECTED FOR IMPACT FELLOWS PROGRAM__
Kevin Windham, a senior at Southeast Missouri State University, was selected into the inaugural class of FOCUS St. Louis’ Impact Fellows Program. Kayla Gaffney of The Arrow reported of those selected for the program, Windham is the only student; the others are executives in the St. Louis area. The program, Gaffney reported, is designed for participants to gain training and experience in change management, problem solving, systems thinking and project management. Windham serves as secretary of the university’s Black Student Union. He also is a senator for the College of Liberal Arts in Student Government Association and is an ambassador to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Banterra Holdings announced J. Mark Williams as its new executive vice president of Banterra’s insurance division. He has more than 35 years of insurance experience, most recently as marketing manager for National Life Insurance Group.
__EUDY RECEIVES ACCOUNTING AWARD__
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants announced the winners of the 2015 Elijah Watt Sells Award. Among the winners is Grant Eudy, a staff accountant at Beussink, Hey & Roe PC in Cape Girardeau. The award is given to CPA candidates who have obtained a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, passed all four sections of the examination on their first attempt and completed testing in 2015.

__KARNES AWARDED MAI DESIGNATION__
John M. Karnes, president of J.M. Karnes & Associates/Dockins Valuation Co. in Cape Girardeau, was awarded the Appraisal Institute’s MAI membership designation, which is held by appraisers who are experienced in the valuation and evaluation of commercial, industrial, residential and other types of properties, and who advise clients on real estate investment decisions. The designation was granted April 25, and Karnes will be honored during a meeting of the Greater St. Louis Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, according to a news release. MAI designation is received upon completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a comprehensive exam, a written demonstration appraisal report and attaining 4,500 hours of qualifying experience requirements. Karnes began appraising real estate in 1993 at Jones Appraisal Service in Caruthersville, Missouri, and later owned and operated Karnes Appraisal Service and Evergreen Management & Development in Caruthersville, Kennett and Cape Girardeau. In 2005 he was employed by William P. Dockins of Dockins Valuation Co. and purchased the company from Dockins in 2013.
__MEHNER RE-APPOINTED TO FINANCE BOARD__
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Gov. Jay Nixon again nominated John E. Mehner of Cape Girardeau to the Missouri Development Finance Board, according to a news release from the governor’s office. The board administers a range of financing programs for Missouri businesses, local governments and state agencies; issues taxable or tax-exempt industrial revenue bonds or notes; and provides market rate or low-interest loans and grants to political subdivisions to fund public infrastructure improvements, the release said. Mehner, a current member of the board, has served as president and CEO of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce since 1993. Before that, he was vice president of Advanced Business Systems in Cape Girardeau from 1985 to 1993 and served as a St. Louis County police officer from 1981 to 1985. The governor nominated Mehner for another term ending Sept. 14, 2019.
__HOFFMAN RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S AWARD FOR EDUCATION__
Dr. Steven Hoffman, coordinator of the historic preservation program and professor of historic preservation in the Department of History at Southeast Missouri State University, was presented the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education at a luncheon in Jefferson City, Missouri. The award is an annual recognition of superior classroom teaching, according to a news release from Southeast. Each Missouri institution is invited to select one faculty member for the award who demonstrates a commitment to student learning and excellence in the classroom. Hoffman has worked at Southeast since 1995 and is involved in a number of community organizations; he also has been published extensively in books and journals.
__FLETCHALL ATTENDS COLLECTIVE IMPACT SUMMIT__
Allan Fletchall, property maintenance and zoning inspector in the Inspection Services Division of the City of Cape Girardeau, attended the Collective Impact Summit March 30 and 31 in Columbia, Missouri. The event was hosted by the Red Cross. Gov. Jay Nixon spoke at the event, highlighting the need for advance planning to respond to disasters, specifically tornadoes, earthquakes and floods, according to a news release from the City of Cape Girardeau. The summit provided opportunities to network and learn from other governmental agencies, volunteer groups and charities.
__OVERBECK NAMED OPERATOR OF THE YEAR__
Quentin Overbeck of the City of Cape Girardeau Public Works Department was named Operator of the Year for the Southeast Section of the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference. Overbeck has worked for the city for four years is chief operator of the wastewater treatment facility. The award recognizes operators who have shown outstanding performance and dedication in their field. The Southeast Section covers 23 counties in Southeast Missouri.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Bruce Goin, longtime funeral director at Cotrell Funeral Service, has been promoted to general manager, as Randy Schulz, the firm’s operator since 2006, takes on a new profession, the Daily American Republic reported. Goin, a graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science, has worked at Cotrell for 35 years. Additionally, Carol Boyer now serves as administrative manager at Cotrell. She joined the business in 1999 as an administrative assistant and later became a licensed pre-need agent and licensed insurance agent. As part of her new role, she recently became a funeral director apprentice.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Gerald Rone of Municipal Utilities in Poplar Bluff was named Water Plant Operator of the Year for Southeast Missouri. The award was given at the annual Water and Wastewater Conference in Cape Girardeau. Rone is the senior operator of the Poplar Bluff water plant, where he has worked for 24 years.
