NEW EDITOR AT THE REPUBLIC-MONITOR
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Crystal Lyerla was promoted to managing editor of the Republic-Monitor, announced Beth Chism, publisher of the Perryville newspaper. Lyerla has been a news reporter for the Republic-Monitor since January 2014. She assumed the managing editor responsibilities in May. Lyerla previously was editor of the Herald-Tribune in Chester, Illinois, for more than four years. She is a Jackson native and graduated from Jackson High School and Southeast Missouri State University.
MOORE TO RETIRE FROM SIKESTON PARKS AND RECREATION
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Jiggs Moore, director of City of Sikeston Parks and Recreation, will retire on Jan. 8, the Standard Democrat reported. He began working for the city on Nov. 27, 1989, and was promoted to parks and recreation director July 28, 1991. The city is recruiting for Moore's replacement and hopes to hire a new director before Thanksgiving to provide some overlap before Moore's retirement date.
GREENWOOD HONORED IN BUSINESS JOURNAL
Jon Michel Greenwood was honored in June as Enterprise CIO of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal. Greenwood is the senior vice president of global IT systems for Live Nation Entertainment. He is responsible for all aspects of the company's technology systems and strategies globally. Before working at Live Nation, he held several positions at Sony Music and Sony Corp. of America. Greenwood is a 1985 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau.
SEGRAVES JOINS 1ST CLASS TRAVEL
Leigh Segraves accepted the position of marketing manager at 1st Class Travel in Cape Girardeau. She worked the past nine years for the Southeast Missourian and rustmedia, helping manage several businesses' media. Segraves is a Cape Girardeau native and Southeast Missouri State University graduate.
MATTINGLY CERTIFIED IN HR MANAGEMENT
Meghan Mattingly, human resources generalist at The Bank of Missouri, has been certified through the Society for Human Resource Management. The certification is "focused on the competencies and knowledge all HR professionals need to lead in today's business community," according to a news release from the bank. During the four-hour exam, test takers are presented with realistic work-related scenarios and asked to choose the best strategy to address each one.
WARNER, SCHUMER RETIRE FROM CAPE FIRE DEPARTMENT
Capt. Ray Warner retired from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department after 33 years of service. A graduate of Central High School, Warner enlisted in the Air Force and served as a firefighter until he was discharged in 1982. He began a career at the Cape Girardeau Fire Department on Dec. 2, 1982. Additionally, Harry Schumer, master firefighter, has retired from the department after 28 years of service. He began his career there on Aug. 1, 1987, and completed his Firefighter I and II certification on Dec. 7, 1988. He was promoted to master firefighter on March 24, 2001, and obtained a National Certification in Airport Firefighting in February 2015.
FULTON NAMED VICE CHAIR OF WATER CONFERENCE
Todd Fulton, of the Cape Girardeau Public Works Department, was named 2015--2016 vice chair of the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference during the organization's annual meeting Aug. 18 and 19 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Fulton also is the secretary-treasurer of MWWC's Southeast Section.
NIXON MAKES APPOINTMENTS TO BOARD OF REGENTS
Gov. Jay Nixon on Sept. 8 announced his appointments to the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents, according to a news release. The governor appointed Phillip M. Britt of Kennett, Missouri, and Edward P. Gargas of Dexter, Missouri, to the board. The six-member Board of Regents appoints the president of the university, employs faculty and staff and makes budgetary and policy decisions necessary to implement the university's mission, the release said. Britt has served as Drug Court Commissioner for the 35th Judicial Circuit since 2002. Before that, he was the elected state representative for the 163rd District in the Missouri House. Britt also served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Dunklin and Pemiscot counties. The governor appointed Britt for a term ending Jan. 1, 2022. Gargas is director of operations and sales for Bagby Wealth Management and has been in financial management and insurance positions since 1991. He is a commissioned officer in the Missouri Army National Guard and a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The governor appointed Gargas for a term ending Jan. 1, 2022.
MARTIN APPOINTED TO SOIL, WATER DISTRICT COMMISSION
BERNIE, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Jixon on Sept. 8 appointed Timothy W. Martin of Bernie to the State Soil and Water Districts Commission. The commission formulates policies and general programs for the saving of Missouri soil and water by the soil and water conservation districts. Martin is president of Martin Rice Co., Martin Grain Co. and Marco Inc. With his brothers, he farms and manages more than 7,000 acres of rice-growing and row crop land in Southeast Missouri. The governor appointed him for a term ending Aug. 15, 2018.

Breita Church was hired as executive director of Love INC of Southeast Missouri, effective Sept. 9. She has a background in management and working at not-for-profit organizations. The Cape Girardeau chapter of Love INC is part of an international effort to "match people in need with Christians who can help," according to its mission statement.

BAKER INSTALLED AS INSURANCE ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
KENNETT, Mo. -- Randy Baker, president of T.R. Baker Insurance Agency in Kennett, was installed as president of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents. He was sworn in during the association's annual Joint Leadership and Young Agents Conference at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri. Baker has worked in the insurance industry for more than 35 years, joining his father in the family-owned agency. Baker has served on numerous committees in MAIA, including chair of the planning, budget/finance and technology committees. He also was director of Region 12 for six years.
AIDE TO BE HONORED BY FFA
Dr. Mike Aide, chairman of the Department of Agriculture at Southeast Missouri State University, has been selected to receive an Honorary American FFA Degree. The award recognizes those who have gone beyond valuable daily contributions to make an extraordinary long-term difference in the lives of students and inspire confidence in a new generation of agriculturists. Members of the National FFA Organization's board of directors approved the nomination, and Aide will receive the award at the 2015 National FFA Convention and Expo in October in Louisville, Kentucky. Recipients receive a certificate and medal, and their names are permanently recorded.

Shawn Cook of Jackson joined MRV Banks as market president for Cape Girardeau and Jackson. He has more than 20 years of banking experience in Missouri, most recently as chief financial officer at Midwest Agri-Chemico and Midwest Grain and Barge Co. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado. MRV Banks, headquartered in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, has branches in Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau and will be coming to Sikeston in December.

DEWITT JOINS BANK BOARD
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Blake DeWitt, a Sikeston native and former Major League Baseball player, was named to the First State Community Bank Advisory Board in Sikeston. DeWitt, appointed in August, retired from the baseball after playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. He lives in Sikeston with his wife, Lauren, and son, Rex. Lauren is executive director of the Sikeston Public School Foundation.
OLIVER NAMED ARSON PA OF THE YEAR
BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Russ Oliver, Stoddard County prosecuting attorney, was named arson prosecutor of the year by the Professional Fire & Fraud Investigator's Association, the Daily American Republic reported. He was nominated for the award by Jason Dunn, PFFIA member and investigator at the state fire marshal office, who has worked with Oliver on numerous arson cases in the past five years.
SEMO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESENTS SERVICE AWARDS
Four individuals were honored with Distinguished Service Awards from Southeast Missouri State University's Alumni Association during Homecoming festivities Oct. 17. Recipients were George Hartsfied of Jefferson City, Missouri; Walter Smallwood of Kirksville, Missouri; and Rick Hetzel and Cheryl Mothes of Cape Girardeau. Mothes, a Sylvia, Kansas native, is a financial adviser at Edward Jones. Her husband, Hetzel, a native of Jefferson City, owns R. Hetzel Properties LLC and Insta Golf LLC. In addition to supporting the university through scholarships and legacy planning, the couple support the Safe House for Women, the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau and Library for All. Both serve on the H. O. W? Ministries Board and MissionFest Cape Board, initiated a consortium of agencies to form Heartland4Haiti and have rescued numerous cats and dogs together. Mothes also is a member of the Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation Board, a GRACES member with United Way of Southeast Missouri, a Zonta Club Haiti medical/dental clinic team leader, chair of the Grace United Methodist Church Foundation, Southeast Missouri State University Horizons member and Power of Women planning team member. Hetzel serves on the Banterra Bank Advisory Board and the committee for Health and Human Services for Southeast Missouri State University. He is a University Horizons member and endowed a criminal justice scholarship. He retired from U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command in 1990 and as chief of police in Cape Girardeau in 2001.

MOUSER APPOINTED TO BOARD OF THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
DEXTER, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon reappointed Brandy M. Mouser of Dexter to the Board of Therapeutic Massage, according to a news release. The board is responsible for protecting the public from unlicensed, negligent, incompetent and dishonest services relating to massage therapy and massage therapy businesses; and enforces licensure standards through the implementation of legislation and administrative regulations, the release said. Mouser is a licensed massage therapist, cosmetologist and esthetician. She is the owner of Salon 10 LLC in Dexter and has more than 20 years of experience in massage therapy. She was reappointed for a term ending June 17, 2017.
