DUNCAN GETS EXTRA MILE AWARD

Wanda Duncan, licensed broker-associate with Realty Executives of Cape County, received the 2012 CRS Extra Mile Award at the Missouri Association of Realtors convention in Springfield, Mo. The award is given to a CRS member who has gone the "extra mile" to support the chapter with his or her skills and time. Duncan has been the chapter's newsletter editor for three years.

CAPE HONDA GETS PRESIDENT'S AWARD

American Honda announced that Cape Girardeau Honda received the 2011 President's Award. The award is the highest honor Honda can bestow on a dealership and goes to only the top 15 percent of Honda dealerships in the United States. It is based on dealership excellence in areas such as customer satisfaction and sales volume. Cape Girardeau Honda was the only Honda dealer in Missouri to win the award in 2010 and the only Missouri Honda dealer to win it consecutively in 2010 and 2011.

JACKSON CHAMBER HONORS TEACHERS

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce held its Educator of the Year banquet May 3. Educator of the Year awards went to Julie Vangilder, elementary winner; Dan Burkemper, high school winner; Deidre Hartmann, private school winner; Anne Brown, specialty winner; and Roseann Bruns, junior high winner.

SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER CERTIFIED

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Mike Grimes, a member of the Charleston Board of Education, achieved advanced certification in the Missouri School Boards' Association certified board member program. All newly elected school board members must complete a 16-hour program required under the Outstanding School Act of 1993. Those achieving advanced certification chose to complete additional requirements including school finance, parliamentary procedures, board operations and policymaking.

MARSHALL HIRED TO LEAD COLLEGE CENTER

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Missy Marshall was appointed director of the Three Rivers College Center in Sikeston. Marshall, who previously served as executive director of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce for more than 11 years, began her new job June 4. Her duties include administrative oversight for the Center at Sikeston, assistance with government relations, coordination of new and existing partnerships and serving as liaison to the Delta Regional Authority. Susan Glasgow Lawrence was named interim executive director of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, effective June 4.

NORANDA HONORS EMPLOYMENT MILESTONES

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Noranda Aluminum Inc. recognized employees who have reached service anniversaries during its May employee recognition event. Marking 35 years of service with the company are Marty Jackson, Michael Stanley, Gayla Stephens, Jack Huckeby and Myra Wood. Marking 30 years are Mike Kuppart and Rick Miller. URHAHN HIRED AT DEXTER HIGH

DEXTER, Mo. -- Dexter High School will have a new assistant principal and athletic director with the start of the 2012-13 school year, the Dexter Daily Statesman reported. Derek Urhahn, a native of Oran, Mo., who has lived in Dexter for the past 19 years, will fill the post vacated by Chuck Powers. Urhahn has been superintendent in the Leopold School District since 2005.

LEWIS GETS WATER CONFERENCE AWARD

PARMA, Mo. -- Steve Lewis of Parma was named Water Operator of the Year for 2012 by the southeast section of the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference, which includes 22 counties in Southeast Missouri. The award is given each year to a water treatment or water distribution operator with outstanding performance and dedication to the field of drinking water operation. Lewis is a contract operator serving as chief operator for Hayti Heights, Mo., during the court-ordered receivership. He is also chief operator for the Steele, Mo., water and wastewater systems. Lewis was also elected as the southeast section's representative to the board of directors of the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference.

THREE RIVERS HONORS EMPLOYEES

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Three Rivers College honored employee contributions at its annual Achievement, Contribution and Excellence Awards on May 18, the Daily American Republic reported. Awards included the following: President's Impact Award, Facilities and Safety and Security Team; Distinguished Support Staff, Jennifer Hood; Distinguished Faculty, Greg Snell; Distinguished Professional Staff, Robert Abney; Innovative Educator Faculty, Madawn Traxel; Innovative Educator Adjunct, Sally Gragg; Outstanding Student Support Award, Amanda Reynolds; Student Engagement Award, Madawn Traxel; Community Impact Award, Cindy and Buddy White; and Outstanding Newcomer, Janine Heath.

Retirees honored were Mortina Williams, Helena Ruhl, Bud Joyner and Lydia Clark. Those marking service anniversaries are Robby Calvert, Davine Conover, William Durden, Charlotte Eubank, Wendy Spradling, Madawn Traxel and Deborah Young, five years; Gina Cagle, Lydia Clark, Anita Freeman, Sharon Green and Kim Shackleford, 10 years; Kenny Bullington, James Deken and Kyra Langley, 15 years; Joyce Rehkop, 20 years; and Helena Ruhl, Stacey Ward, Cindy White, Kathy Richardson, Madelyn Wilson and Gene Bess, 25 or more years. BROWN, SHOCKLEY RETIRE FROM NORANDA

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Noranda employee Mike Brown of New Madrid retired after more than 41 years of employment in maintenance at the New Madrid plant. Brown started at Noranda as a laborer in 1971, when he was hired to assist with building the rectifier. The laborer job led to a job in maintenance utility, where he has worked for more than four decades. Bruce Shockley of East Prairie, Mo., retired after 36 years at Noranda. Shockley started in April 1976 as a maintenance mechanic in plant utilities and e retired as maintenance mechanic supervisor.

BORGSMILLER NAMED SIKESTON CAMPUS DIRECTOR

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Stephen Borgsmiller, superintendent of Sikeston Schools, was named director of Southeast Missouri State University-Sikeston. Borgsmiller will begin his new duties in early July. He replaces Judy Buck, who retired June 28 after 14 years as director. Borgsmiller has 31 years of experience in education. In his new role, he will have overall management responsibility for operations, growth and development of the Sikeston campus at 2401 N. Main St. in Sikeston.

Belladona Salon & Spa welcomed several new employees to its City Centre location in Cape Girardeau. Heather Pierce-Cutright, Melanie K. Balsman and Katie Burrus are among those employees. All three are stylists and nail technicians. Pierce-Cutright specializes in acrylics and shellac, and Balsman specializes in acrylics.

DOMIAN, MOTHES RECOGNIZED AS LEADERS

Edward Jones financial advisers Donna Domian of Cape Girardeau and Cheryl Mothes of Jackson attended the firm's 2012 Financial Advisor Leaders Conference at its headquarters in St. Louis. The conference recognizes financial advisers who are among the leaders in the financial services firm. Domian and Mothes were among 570 who qualified out of the firm's more than 11,000 financial advisers.

THIELE NAMED DIRECTOR OF MALDEN CAMPUS

MALDEN, Mo. -- Dr. Nicholas Thiele, superintendent of Bloomfield Schools, was named director of Southeast Missouri State University's regional campus at Malden. Thiele will begin his new duties at the Harry L. Crisp Bootheel Education Center in Malden July 1. He replaces Dr. Rick Hux, who retired June 30 after 12 years as director. Thiele has 26 years of experience in education and has been superintendent in Bloomfield since 2008.

BALL, IGNACIO TO SERVE ON STATE ASSOCIATION

Trent Ball, associate dean of students, and Michael Ignacio, TRIO intake specialist with Academic Support Centers, both at Southeast Missouri State University, were elected as public institution representative and member-at-large, respectively, to the Missouri College Personnel Association Board for 2012-13. MoCPA is an association for student affairs professionals across Missouri.

REAL ESTATE AGENTS EARN PREMIER DIAMOND AWARD

DEXTER, Mo. -- Three agents from Real Living Young Realty received the Premier Service Diamond national award for providing superior customer service to homebuyers and sellers in Dexter. The award was presented to Missy Stites, Lori Bishop and Karen Cook by Harley E. Rouda Jr., president of Real Living Real Estate. To qualify for the award, Stites, Bishop and Cook each had to receive a minimum 95 percent customer satisfaction rating. Each had a rating of 100 percent.

DIVERSIFIED CROP AGENT HONORED

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Laura Nolan, a member of Diversified Crop Insurance Services, was honored as a Top Affiliated Agent Producer. The award was presented at a national sales conference in New Orleans. Diversified Crop Insurance is part of CGB Diversified Services.

BLACK NAMED OZARK SUPERINTENDENT

VAN BUREN, Mo. -- Bill Black, superintendent at Fort Smith National Historic Site in Arkansas, was selected as the new superintendent at Ozark National Scenic Riverways. He served in an acting capacity in the position for four months earlier this year and takes the position permanently in midsummer.
