GAMEL PROMOTED AT CHARTER

MAINORD GETS FARM BUREAU AWARD

BENTON, Mo. -- Scott Mainord Jr., Scott County (Benton) Farm Bureau insurance agent, received the Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance Co.'s Brokerage Life Line Leader Award. He competed for the honor with more than 200 agents throughout the state. The award was presented at the All Star Sales Conference March 2 to 4 in Branson, Mo. Mainord was also recognized for 35 years of service with the company.

NOTO IS CERTIFIED SPECIALIST OF SPIRITS

Brian Noto was recognized as a certified specialist of spirits by the Society of Wine Educators. Noto was required to pass an examination posing questions about worldwide spirit producing regions, presentation styles, production methods and tasting. He is the only person in the region to have attained these credentials for both wine and spirits.

VOLKERDING IS REP OF THE MONTH

Ken Volkerding of Jackson, a financial representative with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, was representative of the month in the Missouri East Region for March. He was also new member leader in the Missouri East Region in March.

MCCLANAHAN NAMED CRS OF YEAR

Jan McClanahan of Realty Executives of Cape County received the Council of Residential Specialists of the Year Award. To receive the honor, McClanahan displayed exceptional dedication to her CRS chapter in Missouri, gave her time and resources to the community and is a successful real estate agent. Winners must also have been members of the local board or state association for more than five years.

REALTY EXECUTIVES ANNOUNCES NEW BROKERS

Realty Executives of Cape County announced the following new brokers: Donna McDonald, Seymour Chilton, Carol McGuire, Kathi Fish, Ken Kiefer, Karen Lewis and Becky Buehler. To become licensed brokers, the executives completed a 48-hour education course and passed the broker licensing exam.

MCFERRON RECOGNIZED AS OUTSTANDING SUPERINTENDENT

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Alvin McFerron, superintendent of the Scott County Central School District, was among eight Missouri superintendents to receive the Outstanding New Superintendent Award from the Missouri Association of School Administrators. The award is presented annually to superintendents who are in their second or third year of employment and have made a measurable contribution to the district they serve. McFerron is the only superintendent in the Southeast District to receive the honor.

WIMBERLY RECOGNIZED FOR SALES SKILLS

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Scott Wimberly, an employee with Sikeston Implement, was honored by John Deere for obtaining master-level for the position of parts sales program. He completed extensive training in the John Deere University program.

SCOTT NAMED SAFETY PERSON OF THE YEAR

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. recognized Christopher "Todd" Scott of Charleston, Mo., assistant control room operator at the New Madrid Power Plant, as the plant's Safety Person of the Year. Nominated by his peers, Scott was honored for his response when a co-worker began choking on food. Scott successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver on the victim.

P.B. ANNOUNCES TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Judy Seawell was named 2012-2013 teacher of the year for the Poplar Bluff School District. She is a kindergarten speech pathologist who was also named elementary teacher of the year and kindergarten center teacher of the year. Building teachers of the year were Hope Conover, high school; Michael Melson, junior high; Craig Thurman, 5th and 6th Grade Center; Sara Robertson, Early Childhood Center; Kacie Kendrick, Eugene Field Elementary; Amanda Pryor, Lake Road Elementary; Rondalyn Vaughn, Oak Grove Elementary; Elizabeth Bliss, O'Neal Elementary; and Deborah Dancer, Technical Career Center. Thurman was also named middle schoolteacher of the year, and Conover was also secondary school teacher of the year.

TALLENT NAMED AGENT OF THE YEAR

Tim Tallent, a Bollinger County native and Southeast Missouri State University graduate, was honored as the Missouri Department of Conservation's Missouri Outstanding Conservation Agent of the Year.

Mark Alnutt, senior associate athletics director for administration at the University of Missouri, was named director of athletics at Southeast Missouri State University. He will begin his new duties at Southeast on or around May 21. He replaces John Shafer, who retired last June. Cindy Gannon has been serving as interim director of athletics since that time.

CHAMBER HONORS TOP TEACHERS

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce honored five teachers April 18 at its annual teacher of the year banquet, the Daily American Republic reported. Awards went to Judith Seawell, elementary teacher of the year; Craig Thurman, middle school teacher of the year; Hope Conover, high school teacher of the year; Holly Bagby, Three Rivers College instructor of the year; Sally Gragg, Three Rivers adjunct of the year; and Vicki Barnett, Westwood Baptist Academy teacher of the year.

NEW PRINCIPALS ANNOUNCED

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Justin Tarte, current junior high assistant principal in the Poplar Bluff School District, will take over July 1 as principal, the Daily American Republic reported. Brian White will begin as assistant principal July 16; he is currently an elementary principal in Puxico, Mo. Carol Metz, a former teacher in the Poplar Bluff district, will begin July 16 as principal of the kindergarten center.

ZARUBA APPOINTED SALES MANAGER OF FOX 23

Mike Smythe, general manager of Sinclair Broadcast Group's FOX 23 KBSI-TV, announced the appointment of Brad Zaruba as the new general sales manager for FOX 23 and MY 49 WDKA-TV in the Paducah, Ky., Cape Girardeau market.

TANZ NAMED PARKS AND REC DIRECTOR

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The City of Perryville hired Jared Tanz as director of Perryville Parks and Recreation. Born and raised in Perryville, Tanz has several years of experience in parks and recreation and is currently manager of the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. He replaces current director Marv Blevins, who retires June 29.

JOHNSON COMPLETES COURSE IN NEW YORK

Danea Johnson, owner of Concepts Styling Salon in Cape Girardeau, attended an advanced salon business course at Bumble and Bumble University in New York. The three-day workshop focused on defining a strong salon culture, leadership, management and merchandising in a creative, fashion-forward atmosphere. The company invited Johnson to attend the next level of business education and she plans to complete the course this fall.

BEAIRD GETS SERVICE AWARD

BERNIE, Mo. -- Ginger Beaird, who teaches early childhood special education and gifted K-12 in the Bernie school system, received the Meritorious Service to Education Award from the Missouri State Teachers Association. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession of education at a local, district and state level.

MINERAL AREA COLLEGE PRESENTS STAFF AWARDS

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Several employees were noted for outstanding performance and workplace longevity at Mineral Area College's annual banquet April 20. The top three awards went to Tom Bowyer, general services supervisor of Park Hills, Classified Staff Employee of the Year Award; Bev Hickam, workforce development director of Cape Girardeau, Leadership Award; and Diana Stuart of Farmington, Mo., Faculty of the Year Award. Stuart oversees the teacher education program and coordinates the AQIP accreditation process.

SIKESTON EMPLOYEES HONORED

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Public safety officer John Nelson was employee of the second quarter in the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Chuck Bolen, a member of the city's park division, was employee of the second quarter for the Sikeston Department of Public Works.
