James Johnston of Scott City, a traffic coordinator at Nordenia USA Inc., was employee of the month for March. He has been with the company since Feb. 7, 2000. DARBY IS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Kelly Darby of Jackson, a financial representative with Modern Woodmen of America, was Rookie of the Year in the Missouri East Region for 2011. The honor is given to a full-time representative who has been with the company fewer than three years and is leading the region in production.

PRINTING CO. ADDS NEW EMPLOYEES

The Printing Co. in Cape Girardeau has created a position and welcomed new employees to its staff. Amanda Hill from the company's graphic design department accepted the position of marketing coordinator and will work from the Cape Girardeau office. Robby Rosenquist will fill Hill's previous position as a graphic designer. He brings 15 years of design experience and has worked on projects for a variety of local, regional and national clients. Rita Martin was added as account representative at The Printing Co.'s Farmington, Mo., location.

MEYER MAKES LIST OF TOP 100

Thomas Meyer of EXIT Realty -- Thomas Meyer Associates of Cape Girardeau was named to EXIT Realty Corp. International's list of its top 100 real estate professionals for both closed transaction sides and gross closed commissions earned for 2011. Meyer is president and owner of the company; he has been licensed since 1970.

ARTICLE BY SEMO PROFESSOR PUBLISHED IN SCIENCE JOURNAL

An article by Dr. Santaneel Ghosh, assistant professor of physics at Southeast Missouri State University, was published in Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, a scientific journal focused on advanced drug and gene delivery systems. The article, "Role of engineered nanocarriers in axon regeneration and guidance: current status and future trends," demonstrates the role of smart nanostructures in the development of approaches for treating central nervous system disorders. It also describes the research findings of Ghosh and his co-workers that have developed over the last four years.

FLUEGGE WOOLF CHOSEN FOR LEADERSHIP MISSOURI

Dr. Erin Rae Fluegge Woolf, professor of management at Southeast Missouri State University, will join a group of 30 Missouri business and state leaders chosen to participate in Leadership Missouri, a leadership enhancement program sponsored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The program is designed to help business, government and civic leaders better understand the issues facing Missouri employers, communities and government. Over the course of seven months, beginning in April and ending in October, participants meet each month in a different Missouri city and focus on specific challenges facing that community and state.

VALLE HIRES GILLIGAN AS PRINCIPAL

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Dr. Mark Gilligan was hired as principal at Valle Catholic Schools, effective with the 2012-2013 school year, the Ste. Genevieve Herald reported. Gilligan has spent the last 13 years at Ursuline Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school in Kirkwood, Mo; he currently serves as assistant principal and chair of theology there. He is also an adjunct professor of computer education at Fontbonne University. Gilligan will replace Sara Menard at Valle, who is stepping down after 11 years as principal but plans to remain with the school in a different role.

SUMMERS GETS REGIONAL HONOR

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Bob Summers, principal at Schultz and Summers Engineering, was selected as one of the Top 20 Under 40 Rising Stars by Engineering News Record-Midwest magazine. Nominations were accepted from Nov. 1 to Dec. 8; the winners include 14 men and six women from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Missouri.

WOODMEN REGION IS TOPS

The Southeast Missouri region of Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, led by regional director Randy Rainwater of Farmington, Mo., received the company's Region of the Year Award. The award is presented to one growing region and is based on the impact the organization makes in the community, including member programs, financial services, fraternal benefits and volunteer projects.

EVANS TO HEAD BIOMASS DEVELOPMENT

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Chris Evans was hired as director of biomass business development at the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce. He has a strong agricultural background and will work with Southeast Missouri farmers in developing a Farmer's Network to meet the needs of the area's growing bio-based economy.

CHAFFEE FARMER RECOGNIZED

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Charles Hinkebein was named an overall contest winner in the Asgrow and DeKalb 2011 Yield Contest. He placed first with A4831 brand and second with AG4703 brand soybeans within his soybean cropping district. He placed first overall as the contest winner with AG4831 brand, yielding 83.61601 bushels per acre, and third in the overall contest with AG4703 brand, yielding 78.61131 bushes per acre. He placed first and second with DKC64-69 brand within his corn cropping district and for the overall yield contest with yields of 281.4294 bushels per acre and 280.3367 bushels per acre. He was also recognized for being one of the top-yielding competitors in the Missouri-Kansas region. Hinkebein received a trip for two to the 2012 Commodity Classic in Nashville, Tenn., along with his winnings.

ALLEN GETS STATE PARKS AWARD

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Clark Allen, director of Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, received the Fellow Award from the Missouri Park and Recreation Association. The award, the highest given by the 1,000-member organization, was presented to Allen at the annual conference March 1 at Lake of the Ozarks. Since Allen became director in Poplar Bluff, his department's accomplishments have included the acquisition of park land, updating facilities and creatively seeking out funding resources.

MILLER ENTERS PYRAMID CLUB

DEXTER, Mo. -- Travis Miller, Farm Bureau insurance agent in Stoddard County, achieved membership in Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance Co.'s Annuity Pyramid Club during the company's All Star Sales Conference on March 2 to 4 in Branson, Mo. Miller is one of the company's top agents qualifying for the award this year.

NEWSPAPER ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGES

Matt Sanders was named managing editor at the Southeast Missourian. He previously served as co-managing editor with Chris Harris, who resigned for personal reasons. Before his promotion to co-managing editor, Sanders was content editor for semissourian.com. He first came to the Southeast Missourian as arts and entertainment editor in 2004. Before that he was a reporter at the Dexter Daily Statesman. Lucas Presson is now assistant managing editor. He has been the editorial page coordinator, but his duties have expanded to the oversight of several feature pages, including the weekly Good Times section. He will also help coordinate some online operations. James Samons was hired as arts and entertainment reporter for the Southeast Missourian. He will handle the organization of Friday's SE Live section. As part of these changes, newspaper editor Bob Miller will have a bigger role in the content of editorial pages and content. The changes took effect March 5.

GREEN JOINS FIRST IMPRESSION

Laura Lea Green joined First Impression Techniques, 1461 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau, as a stylist. She has 31 years of experience and specializes in highlighting, hair color, perms, waxes and haircuts for men and women. For the past 27 years she worked at J.C. Penney styling salon, where she was ranked second in her district and 318th companywide based on sales and service.

JOHNSON PROMOTED TO REGIONAL SALES MANAGER

Cape Electrical Supply promoted Kelly Johnson to the newly created position of regional sales manager for the Cape Girardeau market area. He will be responsible for the company's Cape Girardeau-based sales team and continue to service his existing customers around the Cape Electric company network. Johnson has been with Cape Electric more than 20 years and has served in a number of key positions, including western Kentucky regional manager and director of purchasing.

TREPASSO ADDED TO CHAMBER STAFF

Lori Trepasso was hired as membership coordinator for the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce. She has a bachelor of science degree in journalism and has worked in media sales including newspaper, radio and television.

GOSCHE PROMOTED TO VP

ORAN, Mo. -- James Gosche was promoted to senior vice president at Alliance Bank. He oversees the Oran, Mo., branch operations as well as being the lending officer.

SEMO HAS NEW COLLEGE OF EDUCATION DEAN

Dr. Diana Rogers-Adkinson, chair of the Department of Special Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, has been named dean of the College of Education at Southeast Missouri State University. She will begin her new duties at Southeast July 1. She replaces Dr. Tamela Randolph, who has been serving as interim dean.

BOARD OF REALTORS PRESENTS AWARDS

The Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors recognized 15 agents recently as Pinnacle Award winners for production in 2011. SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lee Bowman, a financial representative with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, was New Member Leader in the Missouri East Region for February. He was also representative of the month for February in the Missouri East Region.

Keith Parker, Butler County Farm Bureau insurance agent, was named to the Court of Excellence by the Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance Co. This is his second to receive the award. Parker was also recognized as a member of the Issued Life Premium and Issued Life Applications Pyramid Clubs. Scott County (Sikeston) Farm Bureau insurance agent Matthew Winchester was also named to the Court of Excellence and was recognized as top producer in issued life premium and a member of the Issued Life Premium Pyramid Club.

COLES NAMED OWNERS OF THE YEAR

Bill and Susan Cole, broker/owners of Realty Executives of Cape County, received the Owners of the Year award from Realty Executives International. The award is given to only one of more than 750 franchise owners throughout the company. The Coles were recognized for increasing their sales, increasing the number of sales executives and opening a new office in Jackson.

MCGOWAN JOINS LOVE INC.

John McGowan joined Love in the Name of Christ (LOVE INC.) in Cape Girardeau as chief executive officer. He previously worked for the United Way of Southeast Missouri. McGowan also recently completed requirements for his master's degree in not-for-profit management.

MCGATH NAMED DOWNTOWN DIRECTOR

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Penny McGath is the new executive director of Downtown Poplar Bluff Inc., reported the Daily American Republic. She will be responsible for guiding downtown revitalization efforts, implementing the Downtown Strategic Plan and coordinating the third annual Iron Horse Festival Oct. 6. She replaces Tracy Frish, who resigned Feb. 1.

HICKS HIRED AS BLOOMFIELD PRINCIPAL

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The Bloomfield School Board hired Dustin Hicks, middle school principal in Puxico, Mo., as the new high school principal in Bloomfield, reported the Dexter Daily Statesman. Hicks previously served as a teacher and coach at Bloomfield for four years.

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Alwyn J. Dippenaar from Cape Town, South Africa, is the new master winemaker at Crown Valley Winery.

GORDON RECEIVES MARKETING AWARD

Dr. Peter Gordon, director of the Center for International Business Programs and professor of marketing at Southeast Missouri State University, received the Marketing Management Association's Innovative Marketing Award for 2012 at the MMA Annual Conference March 29 in Chicago.

Jay Wolz of Cape Girardeau was named director of alumni relations and annual giving at Southeast Missouri State University. He has a 25-year career in marketing and communications along with eight years of experience in newspaper and television media. He began his new duties April 9. He replaces Shad Burner, who resigned to launch a career in real estate.
