SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lee Bishop, service technician with Presley Sales & Service, was honored for 15 years of service. He started in the HVAC field in 1987 and has worked at Presley since 1996.

BLOOMFIELD CHAMBER PRESENTS AWARDS

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce honored several individuals and businesses recently at its annual awards banquet. NORDENIA HONORS EMPLOYEES

Joseph Hamilton, cylinder technician, Cape Girardeau, was employee of the month for April at Nordenia USA Inc. He has been with the company since August 2004. Nordenia also recognizes the following employment anniversaries: Doug Currington, Bernice Baldwin and Joe Hoffman, 20 years of service; Todd Poole and Mackal Kimble, 15 years; and Raymond Hinkle, Chuck Kitchen and Tony Renschen, five years.

CAIN JOINS DALHOUSIE

James Cain, who previously operated the restaurant Cain in downtown Cape Girardeau, is now executive chef at Dalhousie Golf Club.

BELLADONA STAFFERS ATTEND REDKEN SYMPOSIUM

Four representatives of Belladona Salon, Spa and Boutique, Cape Girardeau, attended The Redken Symposium in Las Vegas. Linda Springs and Becky Davidson, co-owners and makeup artists; Rana Morgan, certified Redken colorist and stylist; and Leslie Helle attended the symposium, which included training on the latest techniques in hair color, design, finishing and business building strategies.

MARK KAY UNIT RECOGNIZES TOP SELLERS

The Jana Jateff unit of Mary Kay Cosmetics recognized its top producers for the quarter. They were Jane Unterreiner, Amy Romack, Kay Waller and Jana Jateff, all of Cape Girardeau.

DARBY COMPLETES KAPLAN COURSE

Kelly Darby of Jackson, a financial representative with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, completed the Kaplan Financial Needs Analysis Course. She started with Modern Woodmen in October.

HICKS JOINS SENIOR CENTER

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lisa Hicks is the new assistant supervisor at the Sikeston OAKS Senior Center. She also supervises the OAKS Senior Centers in New Madrid, Portageville and Caruthersville, Mo. Hicks last worked for the Alzheimer's Association.

MAURER IS PRESIDENT OF TRADE ASSOCIATION

Jim Maurer, owner of PAJCO Inc. and Rhodes 101 Stops, was elected president of the Missouri Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association. MPCA, a 350-member statewide trade association based in Jefferson City, Mo., represents the majority of fuel marketers, fuel retailers and convenience store owners in Missouri. Maurer's election occurred at the Petroleum and Convenience-Store Exposition of Mid-America in Kansas City, Mo.

Charlotte Matthews has taken over the Edward Jones office at 623 S. Silver Springs Road, Suite 510, Cape Girardeau. She previously worked for Commerce Bank as an account representative for merchant sales. Nicole Farrar is serving as branch office administrator. A ribbon cutting was held April 15 for their new office.

TWO PROMOTED AT CAPE P.D.

Brad Smith

Corporal Brad Smith was promoted to sergeant at the Cape Girardeau Police Department. He has served the department since January 1996, and has worked in the patrol division for five years. Additionally, patrolman Paul Zajicek was promoted to corporal. He joined the department in August 1999, served the patrol division for 10 years, then transferred to the detective division before being promoted.

CHAMBER NAMES NEW DIRECTOR

KENNETT, Mo. -- Meg Benson is the new executive director of the Kennett Chamber of Commerce. She currently works as a communication arts teacher at Kennett High School. She is working at the chamber part-time and will begin full-time work at the end of the school year. Sue New was hired as administrative assistant, effective April 11.

BANK ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS, ADDITIONS

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Paul Hale Jr. was promoted to vice president at New Era Bank. Hale, of Fredericktown, Mo., joined the bank in 1999 and works a compliance officer and security officer, as well as overseeing the bank's information technology department. Janszen Ringo was also promoted to vice president. Ringo, of Farmington, Mo., joined New Era in March 2009. He is a commercial loan officer and also plays a role in credit administration, business development and marketing. Additionally, Tony Myers of Farmington, corporate senior director of organizational development for Centene Corporation in Clayton, Mo., joined the bank's board of directors. Joining the Farmington Advisory Board are Larry Pratte, owner/president of Midwest Embroidery Supplies in Farmington; Bret Burgess, developer and owner of Butterfield Gardens, Butterfield Village and Applewood Senior Apartments; and Janszen Ringo.

JOYCE PROMOTED AT GLIK'S

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Kelbie Joyce was promoted to co-manager of Glik's. She joined the store in August 2008 as a sales associate, and worked her way up to assistant manager and senior assistant manager levels.

ENGINEERING STAFF ATTEND CONFERENCE

Kelly Green and Casey Brunke, engineers with the city of Cape Girardeau, attended the Transportation Engineers Association of Missouri (TEAM) in Branson, Mo. The association promotes the advancement of knowledge in transportation design, construction, maintenance and operations, along with promotion of all matters and interest pertaining to the welfare of public transportation in Missouri. While attending the conference, Green was chosen president-elect of the statewide organization.

JACKSON TEACHERS HONORED

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce honored five teachers March 31 at its annual Educator of the Year Awards. Those recognized were Andy Helle, science teacher at Jackson High School, high school educator of the year; Becky Loenneke, math teacher, junior high/middle school educator of the year; Kay Vangilder, first-grade teacher at Orchard Elementary, elementary school educator of the year; Scott Vangilder, band teacher at Jackson schools, specialty educator of the year; and Tina Sides, language arts teacher at Immaculate Conception School, private school educator of the year.

SEMO NAMES NEW BASKETBALL COACH

Ty Margenthaler was hired as the new head women's basketball coach at Southeast Missouri State University. Margenthaler, a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and native of Macomb, Ill., spent the last five years as an assistant coach at Wisconsin. He was the Badgers' recruiting coordinator, handling all aspects of the recruitment process. He also served as Wisconsin's assistant offensive coordinator and was in charge of post player development. Margenthaler signed a four-year contract with Southeast. He replaces John Ishee, whose contract was not renewed this year.

LOCAL VET ATTENDS CONFERENCE

KENNETT, Mo. -- Dr. Carol Brigance, staff veterinarian at Kennett Veterinary Clinic, attended the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association's winter conference in Hot Springs, Ark. Nationally recognized specialists shared information on the latest medical procedures, including dental care, ophthalmology, hospital management and diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pets.

MCMULLEN TO LEAD ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL

Scott McMullen, a fifth-grade math and science teacher at Cape Girardeau Central Middle School, was selected to lead the Cape Girardeau Alternative Education Center. He replaces Carla Fee, who was tapped to fill the vacant principal position at Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School. Both assume their new duties in June.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- LaTiya Hill, Curtis Fouts and Monica Cradduck were named J.C. Penney Poplar Bluff Top Salon All-Stars for their high sales and service ratings in 2010.

MECHANIC RECEIVES HIGHEST HONOR

DEXTER, Mo. -- Jeremy Wood of Bud Shell Ford in Dexter received senior master technician certification, the highest designation Ford gives to its mechanics. Wood completed more than 550 hours of training and is one of only 251 technicians to hold this designation in the Memphis, Tenn., region, which runs from St. Louis to Louisiana.

WELKER GETS STATE HONOR

Jim Welker, superintendent of the Cape Girardeau Public School District, was recognized by the Missouri Association of School Administrators for outstanding performance as a new superintendent. He was nominated for the award by his colleagues in the state's Southeast region. Nominees must be a practicing superintendent in their second or third year of employment as a superintendent, and have made a measurable contribution to the school district they serve.

BOWMAN HONORED FOR SALES

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lee A. Bowman Jr., a Sikeston, Mo., representative with Modern Woodmen of America, was named to the company's President's Club for 2010. The distinction recognizes Bowman's high achievement in life insurance sales.

Poplar bluff CHAMBER HONORS TEACHERS

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce honored seven educators April 19 at its annual Teacher of the Year Banquet, reported the Daily American Republic. Those recognized were Linda Ferguson, special education teacher, Early Childhood Center; Barbara Halter, preschool director, Sacred Heart School; Kevin Wheeler, math professor, Three Rivers College; Chris Martinez, math teacher, Poplar Bluff High School; Janet Dodd, first grade teacher, Westwood Baptist Academy; Jennifer Nicolini, science teacher, Poplar Bluff Junior High School; and Nona Waddell, adjunct professor of English, Three Rivers. Additionally, Wheeler recently received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. That award was presented at a luncheon sponsored by the Missouri Community College Association in Jefferson City, Mo.

Jan McClanahan, certified residential specialist with Realty Executives of Cape County, attended the CRS National Convention, Sell-A-Brations, in Orlando, Fla. McClanahan is regional vice president of Region 1.

SEMO PROFESSOR'S WORK ACCEPTED TO FILM FESTIVAL

A Southeast Missouri State University faculty member's 3D animated short film was accepted into the International Short Film Festival Detmold 2011 in Germany. Peter Chanthanakone, assistant professor of computer graphics and multimedia, will attend the festival June 9 to 13, in Detmold, Germany. His film, "Death to the Different," was created at Southeast by students from the School of Polytechnic Studies under the direction of Chanthanakone. All films accepted to the festival are less than 15 minutes long and fit into the categories of fiction, animation, experimental, documentary or music video. After the screening of each film, directors will lead a 30-minute panel discussion.

PHILIPS TO RECEIVE PACESETTER AWARD

Ashton Phillips, Scott City, will receive the Pacesetter 60 award during the 131st annual meeting of financial representatives of Northwestern Mutual on July 25 in Milwaukee, Wis. Pacesetter 60 honors financial representatives who sell 100 life policies in their first year of business. Phillips joined Northwestern Mutual Financial Network of Cape Girardeau, The Hahs Group, in March 2010. The Hahs Group is part of the network's Qualy Group in St. Louis.

TWO JOIN ELEMENTS SALON

Kim Talley, formerly of Special Effects Styling Salon, joined Elements Salon and Spa, Cape Girardeau. She has more than 20 years of experience in the salon industry, including more than 10 years as a certified Great Lengths Human Hair Extension professional. Additionally, Paula Keller, formerly of Fitness Plus, joined Elements as a massage therapist.

SAUM RECEIVES TEACHING AWARD

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- George Saum, associate professor of physics at Mineral Area College, received a Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, reported the Park Hills Daily Journal. The honor was presented March 30 in Jefferson City, Mo., at a luncheon sponsored by the Missouri Community College Association. Saum has worked at Mineral Area College for 11 years.

HINKLE NAMED PROJECT MANAGER

Old Town Cape hired Nicholle Hinkle as project manager, effective April 14. She is responsible for coordinating events and special projects, working with volunteers and managing Old Town Cape's online community.

HORGAN PROMOTED TO PRESIDENT

John Horgan was named president of Cape Electrical Supply. Horgan, who previously worked as the company's chief financial officer, has assumed responsibility for all company operations. Allen Toole, vice chairman of Cape Electric, will now focus exclusively on potential acquisitions and new market opportunities.
