FRIEND WINS TOP BANK RECOGNITION

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Cindy Friend, U.S. Bank assistant vice president, treasury management, won U.S. Bank's Annual Pinnacle Award, the company's highest consumer banking employee achievement honors. Friend works at the Center Street branch in Sikeston. She has worked in the financial industry for 25 years, with the past 15 at U.S. Bank. This is her first Pinnacle award. She was among a select number of top-performing employees nationwide to receive the award.

COUNTY HIRES ASSISTANT PUBLIC ADMINISTRATOR

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Christopher A. Wescoat, Matthews, Mo., was appointed assistant public administrator for New Madrid County on Sept 17. Wescoat was given the oath of office by New Madrid County Circuit Clerk Marsha Holiman. He was appointed to the office by New Madrid County Public Administrator H. Riley Bock.

JACKSON ATTORNEY HONORED AT MISSOURI BAR MEETING

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Jackson attorney John N. Koester Jr. was honored Oct. 1 during ceremonies at the 2010 Missouri Bar Annual Meeting. Koester, an assistant prosecutor in the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, was one of three recipients of the Lon O. Hocker Trial Lawyer Award. The awards are presented annually by the Missouri Bar Foundation to lawyers under age 36 who have demonstrated unusual proficiency in the art of trial advocacy.

KRIDELBAUGH ATTENDS MEETING

Alan Kridelbaugh attended the fall Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants committee meeting in Columbia, Mo. As a member of the society's accounting and auditing committee, Kridelbaugh has written articles for the MSCPA's bimonthly publication, "The Asset," and helps plan the annual Accounting and Auditing Conference, set for Nov. 16 this year in St. Louis. Kridelbaugh is a CPA and certified fraud examiner with Schott & Associates P.C., Cape Girardeau.

The Jana Jateff unit with Mary Kay Cosmetics recently honored star consultants for the quarter. Kay Waller and Jana Jateff, both of Cape Girardeau, were honored for production.

RINGER, RADER HONORED BY MISSOURI BAR

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- John W. Ringer, Dexter, Mo., and William S. Rader, Cape Girardeau, were honored Sept. 30 as senior counselors of The Missouri Bar. The title is bestowed upon lawyers who have reached age 75 or who have been admitted to The Missouri Bar for 50 years. The recognition came during the opening luncheon at The Missouri Bar Annual Meeting, held in Columbia. A total of 120 members of The Missouri Bar were presented with senior counselor designation.

NORDENIA HONORS EMPLOYEES

Rhonda Bolton, material handler, Cape Girardeau, was employee of the month for October at NORDENIA USA Inc. She has been with the company since November 2008. NORDENIA also recognizes the following employment anniversaries: Michael Brown, 15 years of service; David DeRousse, Steven Puchbauer and Gary Whitson, 10 years; and Juanita Kocher and Paul McCoy, five years.

LIMBAUGH ELECTED TO STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., Cape Girardeau, is the new president of the State Historical Society of Missouri. He was elected to the position by the board of trustees at the society's annual meeting Oct. 2 in Columbia, Mo. Limbaugh, formerly first vice president, replaces Doug Crews, who had been president since 2007. The society was established in 1898 by the Missouri Press Association with the mission to collect, preserve, make accessible and publish the history of Missouri.

BIG RIVER PROMOTES LITTLEPAGE

Big River Telephone promoted Nathan Littlepage to director of network engineering. Littlepage has been with the company for more than 13 years, starting as a manager of network operations. "In this new role, Nathan will continue building on his considerable background in voice and data communications. He will take on planning and engineering responsibilities as we continue the expansion of our national network," said Kevin Keaveny, chief technical officer for Big River.

TWO ATTEND CENTURY 21 RETREAT

Liz Lockhart of Century 21 Key Realty and Dolores Baker of Century 21 Ashland Realty recently attended the annual Century 21 Real Estate Top Agent Retreat. Sales associates with 2009 sales production in excess of $110,000 in adjusted gross commissions or 30 closed units were eligible to attend the event, held at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, Bahamas.

TWO EARN MODERN WOODMEN HONORS

Ken Volkerding, Jackson, was Financial Representative of the Month in the Missouri East Region for August and September. Additionally, Shane Williams, Cape Girardeau, was Rookie of the Month in the Missouri East Region for September. This recognition is given to a representative who has been with Modern Woodmen for less than three years and is leading the region in production. Williams joined Modern Woodmen full-time in August.

THOMAS NAMED TO ADVISORY COUNCIL

Laura Faye Thomas qualified for the 2010 Senior Marketing Specialists Advisory Council in August. The council is made up of individuals who market senior insurance products in Missouri. Qualifiers for the council are known for exceptional client services and are among the top producers in the state. Thomas has been in the insurance business since 1987 and specializes in Medicare-related plans, prescription drug plans, final expense plans, short and long-term care, cancer and dental plans.

ALUMNI, FACULTY RECEIVE MERIT AWARDS

Seven alumni and one faculty member received Merit Awards from the Southeast Missouri State University Alumni Association Oct. 29 at the Copper Dome Society/Merit Recognition Program. Alumni Merit Awards are presented to Southeast graduates who have brought distinction to themselves and the university. This year's recipients are Michael Lincoln, Mclean, Va., co-founder of the Reston Office of Cooley LLP; Gloria DuCreux, Panama City, Panama, college counselor and co-founder of Balboa Academy; Dan Bussell, Warwick, N.Y., photojournalist for CBS News' "60 Minutes"; Donald "Smith" DeLine, Cape Girardeau, owner of DeLine and Son Farms and DeLine Realty; Larry Ferrell, Cape Girardeau, chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, Southeastern Division; Dr. John Vallentine, Cedar Falls, Iowa, director of the School of Music and professor of music education at the University of Northern Iowa; and Dr. Greg May, Santa Fe, N.M., president of the National Center for Genome Resources. This year's Faculty Merit Award recipient is Dr. Jim Dufek, professor of mass media at Southeast. The Faculty Merit Award is presented for excellence in teaching.

FIVE RECEIVE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS

The Alumni Association of Southeast Missouri State University honored five individuals with Distinguished Service Awards Oct. 30. Recipients were Baseball Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog; Stan and Debbie Crader, Jackson, president of Crader Distributing and a registered nurse, respectively; Dr. Etilvia Arjona Chang, Panama City, Panama, director of the Education USA Center USMA in Panama City; and Gary Smith, St. Louis, a businessman with more than 40 years in sales and operational leadership. Distinguished Service Awards are presented to individuals who have made lasting contributions to their communities and the university.

KFVS12 GENERAL MANAGER WINS EMMY AWARD

Mike Smythe, vice president and general manager of KFVS-TV, received a 2010 Emmy Award in the category of "Commentary/Editorial" for his ViewPoint segment. The Emmy was awarded at the annual National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences banquet Oct. 9 in St. Louis. Smythe's ViewPoint segments run each week on KFVS12 and have been on the air since 2001. ViewPoint had been a finalist in Emmy competitions in 2003 and 2004. The segment has also been honored by the Missouri and Illinois Broadcasters' Associations for best editorial competition.

SEYER ATTENDS ROUNDTABLE MEETING

Steve Seyer, President of S & W Cabinets Inc., attended the 2010 Cabinet Roundtable Meeting hosted by Federated Insurance on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota. Participants from around the country explored the challenges faced by the cabinet industry and shared solutions on how to overcome economic challenges while continuing to provide outstanding service to their clients and employees.

ROWLAND APPOINTED TO STATE BOARD

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Dorothy Rowland, Dexter, Mo., to the Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board. The group provides an independent review of child abuse and neglect determinations in instances where the alleged perpetrator is aggrieved by the decision of the Children's Division. Rowland is a licensed practical nurse who previously worked at Missouri Southern Healthcare. She now serves as fee agent for the Stoddard County license office. The governor has appointed her for a term ending Sept. 12, 2012.

MOORE COMPLETES MEDIATION TRAINING

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Lawyer Kim R. Moore of Perryville recently attended a Missouri Bar training session on mediation and problem solving at Lake of the Ozarks. Moore serves as a volunteer in The Missouri Bar's Complaint Resolution Program, a public service for clients who have filed consumer-type complaints against their lawyers.

CONCRETE WORKERS RECEIVE TRAINING

Steve Thiele, Tammy Thiele and Dusty Watson, along with 14 other employees at Thiele Concrete Finishing Inc. in Cape Girardeau, completed Mine Safety and Health Administration training and are now certified by MSHA for a concrete project at the LeFarge Joppa plant expansion in Grand Chain, Ill. Thiele Concrete Finishing was one of two companies working on a 6,000-cubic-yard concrete pour at the mine Oct. 10.

NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL HIRES TWO REPS

Ashton Phillips and Paul Adell joined Northwestern Mutual in Cape Girardeau as financial representatives. Both are now associated with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network The Hahs Group.

GIFFORD JOINS MAYBERRY SEED CO.

ESSEX, Mo. -- Chris Gifford was hired as an AgVenture Yield Specialist at Mayberry Seed Co. Gifford, a Blytheville, Ark., native, will live in Lake City, Ark. AgVenture Inc. is the nation's largest network of independently owned regional seed companies.

FALLERT RESIGNS, ACCEPTS SABRELINER POSITION

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Mike Fallert, Ste. Genevieve city administrator, announced in mid-October that he will leave his job at city hall to accept a management position at Sabreliner Corp, reported the Ste. Genevieve Herald. Fallert joined the city in August 2009. His specific role with Sabreliner had not been officially announced by the firm at press time. Last month Sabreliner announced it had received $5 million in state economic development incentives to move forward with an expansion project that will create some 400 new jobs by 2014, primarily at its Perryville, Mo., facility. The firm will invest a total of $6.7 million in the project, which will also create three to four dozen jobs in Ste. Genevieve, where Fallert will be based. City officials have not yet announced plans for seeking Fallert's replacement.

LOCAL FARMERS RECOGNIZED FOR PRODUCTION

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon visited Chaffee, Mo., Oct. 20 to recognize Jerry Cox, one of Missouri's top corn-growers, with the Governor's Award for Agricultural Achievement, which honors outstanding farmers, growers and processors in a variety of commodities. Cox is regarded as a national authority on soil fertility, and he works with other farmers to identify ways to increase the nutrients reaching their plants. He manages both irrigated and dryland fields.

Nixon also visited Bernie, Mo., to recognize Martin Rice Co. with the Governor's Award for Agricultural Achievement. Martin Rice was founded more than 50 years ago, when the Martin family first settled on 160 acres in the Missouri Bootheel and cleared the land by mule. Today, the Martin family continues to farm more than 4,000 acres. In 2000, the family enhanced its operation by constructing a rice-processing facility on their land. Second-generation farmer Sonny Martin and his sons, David, Mike and Tim Martin, manage the operation.

The Governor's Award for Agricultural Achievement was also presented to Chris and Scott Matthews, cousins who are co-owners of Matthews Cotton Co. near Matthews, Mo. Founded in 1962, Matthews Cotton Gin is a pillar of the Missouri Bootheel cotton industry, with an average annual capacity of 25,000 bales. Chris and Scott Matthews use the latest technology, including an automated strapping system, to process cotton quickly while preserving quality.

HOWARD JOINS UNITED WAY STAFF

United Way of Southeast Missouri has added Shannon Howard to its staff. Howard is returning to the United Way office after eight years to resume her job as office manager. Howard began working with United Way in December 1997. She worked as a call specialist and resource specialist with First Call for Help as well as in the United Way general office. She moved out of the area in 2002 but continued to be involved in community organizational work. Howard, who has worked in social work for over 10 years, says her primary focus has been on fundraising and casework. In addition to general office manager duties, Howard will be responsible for the organization's website, the campaign database and will be involved in all marketing aspects of the United Way.

ARBEITER ELECTED PRESIDENT OF CHAMBER GROUP

Tim Arbeiter, vice president of community development of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, was elected president of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Missouri for 2011. The organization, managed by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was organized to strengthen local chamber management throughout the state. The group works to provide professional growth and development opportunities for its members. Arbeiter has been with the Cape Girardeau Chamber since 2006.

TWO RECEIVE MASTER LOGGERS CERTIFICATION

The Missouri Forest Products Association in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation recognized new Master Loggers at the Missouri State Logging Competition in Doniphan, Mo., Oct. 9. Local Master Loggers recognized include Kurt Rehagen of Perryville, Mo., and Dustin Lindgren of Patton, Mo. Certification relies on a field assessment process to clearly document a logger's knowledge, skills and harvesting practices using a set of performance standards. If their work passes these tests, applicants sign a code of ethics, and their applications go to the nine-member certifying board.

BEUSSINK JOINS CASA AS COORDINATOR

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southeast Missouri Inc. added volunteer coordinator Amy Beussink to its staff. For the past four years she has served as the Career Assistance Program coordinator with the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri.

LIA SOPHIA NAMES TOP SALES ADVISER

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Lia sophia recently honored Excellent Beginnings Program Achievers for their outstanding sales accomplishments and professionalism. LOCAL REALTORS EARN MASTER GRI DESIGNATION

Wanda Duncan of Realty Executives of Cape County and Brenda Miller of ERA Cape Realty recently earned Master GRI Designation. The Missouri Association of Realtors is one of four states with a GRI Master Level Program, which recognizes experience and education in real estate. Missouri has only eight Realtors who have earned this designation.  

DILLOW NAMED FIRE SERVICE INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR

Brad Dillow, battalion chief with the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, received the Fire Service Instructor of the Year award from the University of Missouri Extension's Fire and Rescue Training Institute Oct. 23 in Lake Ozark, Mo. Dillow has been an adjunct instructor with the MU FRTI program since 2002 and teaches a variety of courses, including technical rescue and structural collapse rescue -- technician.

LINTNER TO HEAD PACHYDERM CLUBS

The board of directors of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs chose Holly M. Lintner as its executive director. She will be responsible for planning, coordinating and directing activities of the National Federation of the Grand Order of Pachyderm Clubs, including program coordination, training and supervision of staff, motivation of volunteers, monitoring of income and expenditures, maintenance of offices, club services and promotion of the Pachyderm organization. Lintner joined the SEMO Pachyderm Club in 2004. She most recently served as a consultant to Southeast Missouri Food Bank and previously served as director of development for the United Way of Southeast Missouri.

HORGAN NAMED CFO AT CAPE ELECTRICAL

Cape Electrical Supply named John Horgan as the company's new chief financial officer. Horgan joined the company Oct. 1 after seven years at Amdocs Inc. Horgan, a St. Louis native, will be relocating to Cape Girardeau.

GREEN NAMED IAAP EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR

Cape Girardeau city engineer Kelly Green was selected as the 2010 Executive of the Year for the Girardot Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals at its annual Executive Recognition Banquet on Oct. 19. IAAP is made up of administrative assistants, office coordinators, executive secretaries, office managers and other professionals. The group seeks to enhance individual and collective value and influence, and sets standards of excellence within the business community.

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- In partnership with Sydenstricker Implements, the Missouri Corn Growers Association awarded Carl Landewee, a grain farmer from Chaffee, Mo., a 2010 John Deere TS 4x2 Gator as part of a recent membership promotion. Gary Wheeler, director of grower services, and board member Jim Stuever of Dexter, Mo., presented Landewee with the ATV at his farm.
