The Williamson County Airport in Southern Illinois will receive an extension of its runway. Manager Doug Kimmel was learned last week that the Federal Aviation Administration had approved the airport authority's request to extend the runway, from 6,500 feet to 8,000 feet in length and 150 feet in width.
The extensions will be added the primary north/south runway.
The estimated cost of the project is $8 million and will be funded by a combination of federal and state transportation grant money, along with a local share provided by the airport authority.
Project completion is estimated for 2004.
