"Profit From Our Experience" was the theme of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which was recently observed by the Cape Girardeau Division of Employment Security Office.
Coordinated by the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, the observance is held annually to help eliminate bias in the work place and encourage employment of the skills and talents of people with disabilities.
"The theme of the 1995 observance calls attention to the huge untapped personnel resource in this country," said Donnie R. Shuck, of the local employment security office. "The 49 million Americans with disabilities represent a vast source of employees and customers for business."
Thousands of employers in the United States have hired people with disabilities, noted Shuck.
