Ribbon-cutting scheduled for Thursday

The city of Jackson, Jackson Chamber of Commerce and the Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate the completion of the Oak Street Recreation Trail Project, marking the end of another project completed under the city's Comprehensive Recreation Trails Plan. The ceremony will be at 11 a.m. on the surface of the new trail next to West Lane Elementary School, 388 N. West Lane in Jackson. In February, Fronabarger Concreters Inc. of Oak Ridge, Mo., was awarded the contract in the amount of $179,222. The project consisted of installing about 5,500 feet of new 6-foot-wide, 4-inch-thick concrete sidewalk extending from the intersection of Whetstone Way east along Oak Street to Jackson City Park. Handicapped-accessible ramps were also included in the improvements at all affected intersections. Seventy percent of the total project costs was paid for by the Missouri Department of Transportation through its Transportation Enhancement Program. The city provided the remaining 30 percent.
