Trying to bring that "log cabin experience" to your home? You don't need to travel too far to turn your home into a rustic-themed retreat.

McDowell South Outdoor Home and Cabin, which opened on Black Friday in 2009, boasts the largest log furniture and wildlife dcor selection in the region. The Jackson business, owned by Kyle McDowell, caters to the outdoor enthusiast, selling a variety of unique products that help bring nature to life.

Located at 2929 Sappington Drive, the home and cabin store carries a complete line of furniture: cedar and aspen log furniture, lodge furniture, rustic furniture and even camouflage furniture.

The store also sells home and cabin wildlife dcor, including comforters, classic tin signs, rugs, pitchers, mugs and wildlife prints by artists such as Terry Redlin.

And McDowell South Outdoor Home and Cabin carries just about every antler-themed dcor piece imaginable from antler lamps, chandeliers and candle holders to antler wine racks, magazine racks and paper towel racks.

"There's nothing like this unless you drive to Branson (Mo.) or Pigeon Forge (Tenn.). The only way you could get these types of products before was by catalog," said Allen Morris, manager of McDowell South Outdoor Home and Cabin. "A lot of people like this stuff and like to look at it in the catalogs or online, but people want to put it in their hands so they can touch it and see the quality."

And now they can.

Since opening, McDowell South Outdoor Home and Cabin already has more than doubled its product line. Originally, the store primarily sold camouflage living room furniture and barn-wood furniture such as end tables, coffee tables and cabinets. But by the end of its first year in business, the store was providing several more camouflage-themed products and a line of lodge-style furniture that allows customers to pick the piece's frame and the material that goes on it to suit each person's unique style.

The store also sells nature-themed apparel, including hand-carved jewelry, wildlife pins and T-shirts that feature North American animals.

For the great outdoors, the store carries fire pits, grills and grill accessories, and wildlife-themed deck furniture.

"Customers seem to appreciate the uniqueness of the store," Morris said.

McDowell South Outdoor Home and Cabin has "barely scratched the surface of things to come," Morris said.

During the next year, the store plans to add more products to its home and cabin selection, and add more imagery to show customers what's possible in their home.

Many of the store's products are made close to home. McDowell South Outdoor Home and Cabin tries to find the most unique U.S. furniture and wildlife dcor, selling products that come from more than 20 states.

"We have traveled across the United States finding some of the most amazing craftsmen in the country," Morris said. "We can bring that log cabin experience to your home."
