LeGrand Brothers Transmissions was the first business in the area to specialize in doing transmission work, opening in 1953. Sixty-one years later, they're still running smoothly.

"It was started by my father," says Dave LeGrand. "And now, I've got my son Josh running it with me, so that'll be third-generation."

They do all sorts of under-car work, from transfer cases to differential diagnostics, and have seen the industry change.

"When we first started, there were two-speed transmissions," LeGrand says. "But now, they just recently came out with an eight-speed one."

He says the biggest shift in the transmission industry has been the integration of computer systems into the machinery.

"Computers now control the transmission itself," he says. "They tell it what to do and when to do it, so we had to adjust to that."

But LeGrand says his father instilled in him a business ethic that hasn't changed; one he has in turn passed on to his son.

"Treat the customer right, do good work, charge a fair price. That's what we're all about," he says.
