__PERRY COUNTY HOSPITAL EARNS FOUR STARS__

PERRYVILLE, Mo. — The government recently released its five-star rating system for hospitals across the country, in which Perry County Memorial Hospital was rated a four-star hospital. It was the only four-star hospital from Festus to Dexter, Missouri, and to central Illinois, the Perryville Republic Monitor reported. The ratings were based on a variety of factors, including surveys of patients’ experiences; timely and effective care; complications; readmissions and deaths; use of medical imaging; and payment and value of care.

__SAINT FRANCIS ADDS PEDIATRICIAN TO STAFF__

Saint Francis Healthcare System added pediatrician Dr. Maria Duroseau to Cape Physician Associates. She earned her medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California. She completed two pediatric residencies, the first at LAC+USC Medical Center in Los Angeles and the second at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Her clinical interests include general pediatrics, weight management, asthma management and family violence/child abuse prevention.

__DESCHENES NAMED TO NEW ROLE AT SOUTHEAST__

Jennifer Deschenes was named director of central sterile and GI services at Southeast Hospital. She has served as GI services manager since October 2014. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University and is working toward a master’s degree in health-care management with an emphasis in administration. She also earned Surgical Scrub Tech certification. At Southeast Hospital, Deschenes has worked in patient registration, on cardiac progress care, information technology and as a neurosurgical scrub tech and implant/inventory coordinator.

__ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON JOINS SAINT FRANCIS__

Saint Francis Healthcare System added orthopedic surgeon Dr. Khalid Waliullah to Advanced Orthopedic Specialists. He earned his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Georgia. He later completed his orthopedic residency and internship at the Missouri Orthopedic Institute at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri. His clinical interests include hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive shoulder and knee arthroscopy, sports medicine and general joint care.

__MIRACLE-EAR OPENS FULL-TIME OFFICE IN SIKESTON__

SIKESTON, Mo. — Miracle-Ear opened a full-time office at 1222 Linn St., Suite A, inside the Sikeston Chiropractic building, the Standard Democrat reported. The office is staffed by Kyle Griffin, a national board-certified hearing instrument specialist with more than 10 years of experience, and Tasha Pedroley. The Sikeston Miracle-Ear is part of the locally owned and operated franchise of Joyce and Jerry Cooley and Ken and Lisa Swinford.

__HEART SURGEON RETURNS TO SAINT FRANCIS__

Saint Francis Healthcare System recently welcomed back cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr. R. Brent New. New, who previously practiced medicine in Cape Girardeau for five years and has nearly two decades of experience, returns as the medical center’s new chief of cardiothoracic surgery. He will guide a team of three fellow heart and vascular surgeons at Cape Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery and nine heart specialists at Cape Cardiology Group. Specializing in adult cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery, his interests include transcatheter aortic valve replacement, complex valve and aortic cases, mitral valve repair, minimally invasive lung surgery and aortic endovascular procedures.

__RAMOS JOINS SERENITY HOSPICE__

FARMINGTON, Mo. — Dr. Rustico Ramos Jr. was named assistant medical director at Serenity HospiceCare. He is board certified in family medicine and currently works at the Farmington Physicians Associates Saint Francis Medical Center.

__COPELAND JOINS PREFERRED HOSPICE__

FARMINGTON, Mo. — Sean Copeland is the new administrator at Preferred Hospice in Farmington. He returns to Farmington after being promoted to the St. Louis Preferred Hospice office as administrator in February. He first joined Preferred Hospice in Farmington as an LPN in January 2011.

__HEART HOSPITAL RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY__

Saint Francis Healthcare System’s Heart Hospital received the ACTION Registry — Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology for the fifth consecutive year. Saint Francis Medical Center is one of only 223 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor in 2016, according to a news release. To receive the award, Saint Francis met rigorous standards of treatment for eight consecutive quarters, scoring 90 percent or better.

__LUTHERAN HOME GIVEN HIGH GRADE__

The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau was awarded a five-star rating by the U.S. government through its Nursing Home Compare system. Through this system, quality ratings are given to each of the nation’s nearly 16,000 Medicare and/or Medicaid-certified homes. Facilities are given one to five stars based on health-inspection results, quality measures and staffing levels. This rating places the Lutheran Home among the top 10 percent of homes in the state rated by Nursing Home Compare.

__BROADWAY PHARMACY HONORED AT NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM__

Broadway Prescription Shop’s Specialty Care Program received the 2016 Pharmacy Partner of the Year award for excellence in business and dedication to service at the Kloudscript National Symposium in Oak Brook, Illinois, according to a news release. The Cape Girardeau pharmacy was chosen among hundreds of pharmacies across the country. Broadway began dispensing specialty medication in March 2015. The pharmacy received the Pharmacy Partner award for excellence in patient care and physician service in helping get specialty medication quickly and at the cheapest price possible. Specialty medications range from oral to injectable and biologic products used to treat chronic and/or serious health conditions. Broadway provides specialty services for hepatitis C, HIV, hypercholesterolemia, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, oncology, osteoporosis, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
