Southeast Missouri Hospital's Department of Radiation Therapy was accredited by the American College of Radiology, making it the fourth hospital in the state to earn the prestigious recognition. Less than 13 percent of radiation oncology centers nationwide have received accreditation status. Accreditation is recognized as a measure of quality care in the industry, reflecting the staffing levels, training and treatment procedures needed to provide patients with the best in radiation therapy. The accreditation process included an on-site review by a board-certified physician and a board-certified medical physicist who are experts in the field of radiation oncology.
Lisa Baker, forensic nurse and forensic interviewer at the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence in Cape Girardeau, received sexual assault nurse examiner-pediatric and sexual assault nurse examiner-adolescent certification from the International Association of Forensic Nursing. She is the fourth SANE-P and 28th certified SANE-A nurse in Missouri. The international certification is granted only to forensic nurses who have met the criteria of education and clinical practice and passed the board exam. In addition to her work with SEMO-NASV, Baker is enrolled in the family nurse practitioner program at Saint Louis University.
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee Nursing Center, a skilled nursing facility operated by Americare, was deemed deficiency-free in the areas of patient care and life safety during a survey by the State of Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services. The survey is conducted annually and is a comprehensive review of the facility's entire operation. The survey examines quality issues relating to resident care, diet, activities, housekeeping, life safety and physical plant. The survey team consists of three nurses and an environmental sanitarian. Results are based on record and chart reviews, resident interviews and on-site observations.
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Joy Cauthorn, MSHS, RN, CIC, received a master of health science degree with a specialty in emergency and disaster management from TUI University in California. Cauthorn, who is coordinator for safety, infection control and disaster management at Missouri Delta Medical Center, is the only professional with this specialty master's degree in the region. She has worked at the Sikeston hospital since 1985.

Southeast is one of 144 hospitals nationwide, one of three in the state, and the only hospital in Southeast Missouri to receive the distinction. Southeast ranks in the top 5 percent of the nation's best hospitals for patient experience for 2010-2011 based on patient satisfaction data analyzed by HealthGrades. The national survey, called the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, assesses patients' perspectives of the hospital care they received, including physician and nurse communication, cleanliness, noise levels, pain management, medication information and postdischarge care instructions.
Landmark Hospital will add a new operations facility at Lorimont Place Ltd., 240 S. Mount Auburn Road, Cape Girardeau. The 5,415-square-foot office will be on the north end of the corporate development, said Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place. Landmark Holdings currently operates three hospitals in Missouri -- in Cape Girardeau, Columbia and Joplin -- and one in Athens, Ga. The new operations center, expected to open in July, will provide support services for Landmark Hospitals including billing, purchasing, information services and other administration functions.

KENNETT, Mo. -- Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center held a grand opening June 24 for its new Cancer and Infusion Center, 1231 First St., Suite 8, Kennett. Hospital CEO Clyde Wood told the Daily Dunklin Democrat that he hopes combining the oncologist/hematologist office and chemotherapy and infusion services into one facility will be more convenient for patients, and the larger space offers a more comfortable setting for patients.
Teresa Landess was appointed director of physician practices at Saint Francis Medical Center. In this position, Landess is responsible for fostering, developing and facilitating improvement of Saint Francis' physician practices and working with the vice president–medical affairs and physician recruiter in coordinating recruitment and retention efforts for the hospital. A Bloomfield, Mo., native, Landess comes to Saint Francis from Vista Health System in Waukegan, Ill., where she was director of patient financial services.

Saint Francis Medical Center recently welcomed its newest physician practice partner, Cape Primary Care. Dr. Janna R. Crosnoe, who has worked at Cape Physician Associates for more than 13 years, started the new practice. She is a longtime member of the Saint Francis staff as a family medicine physician, also providing hyperbaric oxygen therapy and expert care for patients with difficult-to-heal wounds at the Saint Francis Wound Healing Center. Joining Crosnoe is Dr. Joy LeDoux-Johnson, a skilled internal medicine physician/pediatrician. The new practice opened July 1 at 3004 Gordonville Road, Cape Girardeau.
