SIKESTON - The Good Humor-Breyers plant in Sikeston has reached a safety milestone by completing two years worked without a lost-time accident. A lost-time accident is an injury that prevents an employee from returning to work.
The plant attributes its success to employees' commitment to safety and a culture that fosters personal responsibility. Employees regularly set and exceed safety goals while continual training helps employees stay focused on safety, company officials said.
"Across the U.S., 90 percent of accidents can be traced to employee attitude toward safety," said Tony Verlezza, vice president of supply chain. "The Sikeston employees achieved this stellar record because every day they dedicate themselves to maintain the highest possible standard for safety. A strong safety record makes employees feel positive about their work environment and makes our plant a valuable member of the Sikeston community."
The Good Humor-Breyers plant in Sikeston began operations in 1980. In 1998, the plant expanded by adding a second facility in Sikeston's Business Park. Although separated by nearly seven miles, the Sikeston facilities operate as one plant with two sites and with a common management team responsible for both sites.
Approximately 800 employees work at the Sikeston facilities.
