FARMINGTON -- The Farmington City Council on Feb. 25 accepted a bid to construct a multi-million dollar performing arts and banquet center alongside the Farmington Community Civic Center. Work on the new center has begun.

Brockmiller Construction of Farmington bid $4,397,143 with all possible alternates listed. Brockmiller built the existing civic center and neighboring municipal water park.

The new center will seat about 700 people with 500 fixed seats and 200 movable fold-up chairs. The entire complex will be 32,000 square feet. The banquet center is designed to be divided as needed , and the lights and sound will operate as one unit or individually for events in different areas of the facility.

The center is scheduled to open by April 2003.
