POPLAR BLUFF -- One excuse people use for skipping the gym is "I don't have the time." That excuse doesn't fly at fitness center Xtreme Physique -- it's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

While the staff is on premises from 9:15 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, gym members can come and go as they please before and after hours with key access.

"Key access for members is the most unique thing about our place," said Xtreme Physique partner Steve Johnson. "It's probably one of the biggest assets we have. Our gym is available to people who work all shifts."

Xtreme Physique, located at 2201 N. Westwood Blvd., also offers non-key access membership at a lower cost. Corporate and couple rates are available, too. There is no sign-up fee.

Steve Johnson and his wife, Karen, became business partners with Keith and Sheila Montgomery last year. Manager Candace Maples is available for machine and work-out plan guidance.

The business offers circuit training equipment, free weights, cable crossovers, cardiovascular equipment, dumbbells and a heavy bag. Also on site are shower facilities and a tanning bed.

According to the owners, there are a few things they want to do in the future, such as setting up a power-lifting competition.
