When some people think of an eye doctor, their family Optometrist comes first to mind. Optometrists are the first line of defense against many eye problems that impair vision. Usually that means testing and correcting vision with prescription eyewear and contact lenses, but the Optometrist is always vigilant in screening for any signs of deterioration in ocular health. When problems such as cataracts, retinopathy, and glaucoma are detected, the next step is usually a consultation with an Ophthalmologist or Ophthalmic surgeon.

Eye Consultants opened its doors in 1972, to fulfill this consultative roll in our region. Their vision was to provide the most comprehensive array of advanced eye procedures and treatments possible. Their intensive training and hundreds of hours experience in cataract removal, lens implants, corneal transplants, glaucoma surgery and laser procedures were only the beginning. They offered the region comprehensive treatment of conditions such as traumatic eye injuries, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, vitreous disease, and macular degeneration. Specialties like blepharolplasty and occuloplastic surgery that address correction to the eyelids and surrounding structures were added to the menu of patient services, along with botox treatments.

Eye Consultants' mission to make comprehensive eye care available to the entire region came into crystal clear focus in 2008, when they merged with the highly respected Kies Eye Center, which had operated in Cape Girardeau since 1982. The merger, a dynamic blending of two successful practices, brought even more expertise under one roof at Eye Consultants, Inc.
