The Postal Service has expanded its carrier facilities in Cape Girardeau with the leasing of an additional building at 905 Enterprise. Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place Ltd., who handled the lease transaction, said the Post Office leased the nearly 6,000-square-foot building to alleviate overcrowding at the current processing center at 475 Kell Farm Drive.
Kelsey said it was his understanding that a number of mail carriers would be immediately relocated to the new facility.
Since January mail carriers have been operating out of the Kell Farm processing center located off Bloomfield Road. They moved out of the 39-year-old Post Office on South Frederick Street because of an unresolved roof problem with the landlord of the property.
Kelsey said that in March, he also handled the lease of a 5,000-square-foot center for a temporary postal retail center at Christine Corner, located just off South Kingshighway. At that time the Postal Service moved all operations out of the Post Office on Frederick. According to postal officials, negotiations continue between the Postal Service and the Frederick property landlord in regard to the roof problems there.
