"Bedbugs are the smallpox of the insect world," says Elizabeth Knote, president of Cape Kil Pest Control.
"To prevent the ensuing bedbug epidemic from developing here, concern citizens need to 'quarantine' the bedbugs".
For travelers, that means quarantine their luggage in hotel rooms to prevent infestation. If bedbugs are discovered, quarantine the bedbugs in the infested object.
Last September, Knote attended the first bedbug Summit in Chicago, Ill. There, she learned about cutting edge technology to control resistant bed bugs. She's developed nonchemical methods to detect, quarantine, and eliminate these parasites. Visit Cape Kil's Do-It-Yourself Center at 33 N. Frederick St. to purchase bedbug protection products.
Knote continued her education by attending Purdue University's Annual Pest Management Conference for her 30th consecutive year. Cape Kil personnel have attended Purdue's Conference for 60 of 75 meetings. This year, Purdue awarded Knote the special honor of being a member of the planning committee. The university-trained technicians at Cape Kil average 20 years with the company.
